As 2020 draws to a close, WWE is continuing its plans to extend the global reach of their brands and shows.
As reported earlier, WWE renewed their deal with IBA Sports to continue airing their shows in South Korea. Now, it looks like WWE will be launching a new television series for the Indian market.
According to Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics and John Pollock of Post Wrestling, WWE is pushing forward with NXT India and is set to start filming for it next month.
Pollock is reporting that the series launch will feature an eight-man single-elimination tournament. The participants have yet to be revealed, however.
NXT India will be aired on linear television in the country as well as on the WWE Network.
WWE currently has a distribution deal in India with Sony Pictures Networks India Private Limited (SPN). The deal between WWE and SPN was extended this March with a five-year renewal.
SPN also has the rights to the WWE Network for its own audience with their OTT platform SonyLIV.
NXT India will probably feature local talent, much like NXT UK. It should be noted that former WWE wrestler The Great Khali currently has a wrestling school in India.
