Roman Reigns was forced to pull out of this year’s WrestleMania on health grounds since the current COVID-19 pandemic meant that he was considered high risk. This past week on SmackDown it was confirmed that the Universal Championship match would still go ahead but Braun Strowman would be facing off against Goldberg in Reigns’ place.
Goldberg has made a habit of having short matches since his return and it was another short match against The Monster Among Men as he hit four spears and looked to end the match as quickly as it had started.
Strowman isn’t like any wrestler that Goldberg has ever faced though since he was able to pick himself back up and counter with four running powerslams of his won to pin the WWE Hall of Famer and become World Champion for the first time in his career.
It’s worth noting that there was a lot of uncertainty surrounding Goldberg and his future following WrestleMania since the former WCW star was supposed to drop the title to Reigns and not reappear. If Goldberg had retained the Championship then WWE would have been forced to pay more money to bring Goldberg back for one more match to drop the Championship.
Strowman was the perfect man to replace Reigns and to lift the Championship that he has been building towards throughout his career.
