WWE’s Recent Crown Jewel Post Receives Heavy Backlash

WWE Crown Jewel is happening in Saudi Arabia despite the heat WWE received due to the Khashoggi murder case.

Last week on Monday Night RAW, WWE announcers were careful enough not to mention Saudi Arabia while citing Crown Jewel. A commercial for Crown Jewel also aired but without any references to The Kingdom. It appears that McMahon & Co. are trying to do everything possible to keep Saudi Arabia references under the rug and let the show finally take place on November 2, 2018 in Riyadh.

A recent WWE post on Instagram received widespread criticism from the WWE Universe. The post comprises a picture of The Undertaker’s urn with the DX logo sprayed on it. The caption says “Respect is out the window at #WWECrownJewel”

Although there were no references of Saudi Arabia made by WWE in that post, fans automatically lashed out for the fact that Crown Jewel is actually taking place in Riyadh, whether WWE publicly re-announces it or not.

While almost all the fans took the strong stand of not pushing Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia and bashed WWE, a small portion seemed to stand in WWE’s corner.

A few comments have been noted below:

“Absolutely tone deaf caption. Social media bod, have words with yourself”

“Cancel the network if wwe does not cancel crown jewel.”

“Saudi Arabia was responsible for 9-11, WWE took a stand then, that Smackdown after 9-11 was amazing, I’m from NY, WWE is pretty American and it’s very upsetting they are still planning on going to Saudi Arabia after this #cancelcrownjewel”

It all began when US journalist Jamal Khashoggi was reportedly murdered inside the Saudi Consulate on October 2, 2018. Jamal went missing ever since but ahead of his disappearance, he was reporting for The Washington Post that has published numerous stories on Saudi Arabian crown prince Mohammed Bin Salman.

Hell broke loose when CNN reported that as per a Turkish official’s confirmation, Khashoggi was cut into pieces.

A few big-time WWE icons namely Randy Orton, Kevin Nash, JBL have sided with WWE in its decision to continue with Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia.
