The final episode of SmackDown before Backlash kicked off with the contract signing between Jeff Hardy and Sheamus.

Sheamus brought a doctor and security with him to the ring to conduct a urine test for Hardy, who’s had a past of substance abuse. Hardy reluctantly agreed for the test, and later threw the urine sample right on Sheamus’ face, who kept mocking Hardy and his demons.

The doctor later informed that the Charismatic Enigma has tested negative for any kind of substance.

  • Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro def. The New Day: Big E and Kofi Kingston had a show of respect before the match, kneeling and raising their fists. The match saw the usual action before a crossbody attempt by Kingston was thwarted by Nakamura for the win.

Otis and Tucker were seen preparing for the main-event match before Mandy Rose walked in and Otis got distracted. Meanwhile, Sheamus and Hardy brawled through the backstage area.

  • Intercontinental Championship Match | AJ Styles def. Daniel Bryan: The tournament concluded with a lengthy 40-minute match, that saw Styles pick up the victory with a Phenomenal Forearm on the leader of the YES Movement.

Styles cut a promo post-match and called himself the best champion WWE has ever seen, as Bryan sold the knee injury from the match-up.

Braun Strowman promised to take down Miz and Morrison, and also obliterate the Heavy Machinery in case Otis tried to cash-in.

Sasha Banks and Bayley boasted about their wins last week, before being interrupted by Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross, and IIconics who joined through the big screen. After the three teams traded a few words, Bliss and Cross attacked the champs to end the segment.

  • Braun Strowman and Heavy Machinery def. Dolph Ziggler, The Miz and John Morrison: The faces won the match after Otis delivered a Caterpillar to Ziggler, despite some distraction from Baron Corbin, who tried to hit on Otis’ girlfriend Mandy Rose, backstage.

Post-match, the winners celebrated as Otis continued to stalk Strowman and his title.
