WWE NXT Results and Highlights

The latest taped episode of NXT aired from an unknown location this week, with WWE hyping it up as NXT Takeover: USA. The show featured two lengthy matches, with the crowning of No.1 contender for Charlotte Flair’s NXT Women’s Championship and the Black Heart vs Rebel Heart matchup.

  • Ladder Match | Io Shirai def. Dakota Kai, Tegan Nox, Candice LeRae, Mia Yim, Chelsea Green: In a fantastic ladder match, The Genius of The Sky grabbed the briefcase to become the No.1 contender for the title once again. The finish saw long-term rivals LeRae and Shirai jostle over the briefcase before Shirai pushed her through a ladder.

Finn Balor cut a promo and said he will be coming for WALTER’s title soon enough.

  • Indus Sher def. Ever Rise: Accompanied by Malcolm Bivens, the two Indian superstars got a new tag-team name and destroyed the team of Matt Martel and Chase Parker, using Demolition’s old finisher for the win.

Adam Cole cut a promo from the pool-side of his home and said he is ready to end the Velveteen Experience.

  • Johnny Gargano def. Tommaso Ciampa: After a long matchup that saw both the competitors destroy each other all over the arena, a low-blow from Candice LeRae to Ciampa ended things. LeRae had earlier hit Gargano with a low-blow, but he was shown wearing a protective cup. Gargano went on to hit the Fairytale Ending for the win.

Post-match, the couple celebrated together and made their exit as Scarlett Bordeaux and Killer Kross looked on from distance.

WWE NXT Takeaways

1. One Final Beat

The main-event of the evening was advertised as the one final match between the duo, who have tried to murder each other several times over the last three years. The match had a cinematic feel to it, similar to the Boneyard and Firefly Fun House matches from the weekend, and had both the individuals put their bodies on the line.

Candice LeRae finally snapping and turning heel was a splendid decision on WWE’s part, as it will help her to open up new avenues in the Women’s Division. The partnership of LeRae and Gargano will surely be an interesting sight going forward, and it remains to be seen if they book tickets for the main roster.

2. A Genius Decision

Io Shirai is arguably the best in-ring performer in WWE currently, and WWE has held off on handing her the title for quite some time now. She’s had her chances but hasn’t been able to reach the top. With Shirai now getting an opportunity to face ‘The Queen’ Charlotte Flair, the WWE Universe is in for a treat.

Shirai vs Flair will be a fantastic encounter, and could even main-event a Takeover event. WWE must ensure that they present this match in front of a capacity crowd, as it could end up being the best Women’s Match in the company.
