NXT returned to Full Sail University this week, with a taped episode featuring a return to proper wrestling action, following a different format last week.

WWE NXT Results and Highlights

  • Tyler Breeze defeated Austin Theory with a Beauty Shot. Theory’s cockiness got the better of him as the veteran NXT star registered the win.
  • Killian Dain defeated Tehuti Miles: The Irish Superstar took down the debutant, who has experience in football and military. Dain hit the Vader Bomb for the win.
  • Cameron Grimes defeated Tony Nese: The former Cruiserweight Champion had to face the wrath of Grimes, who hit a forearm followed by a double stomp for the victory.
  • Io Shirai defeated Aliyah: The qualifier match, which was supposed to be Xia Li vs Aliyah, was changed to Io Shirai vs Aliyah after Li was laid out backstage by her opponent. Shirai won the match-up with her picture-perfect moonsault and qualified for the Ladder Match at Takeover.
  • Keith Lee’s in-ring interview was interrupted by Dominik Dijakovic and Damien Priest. After some trash-talking, the three men got involved in a brawl, and Dijakovic stood tall to end the segment.
  • A pre-recorded promo from the longest-reigning NXT Champion, Adam Cole, was aired from his backyard where he proposed a Bobby Fish vs Dream matchup for next week.
  • Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch defeated Shane Thorne and Brendan Vick: The hard-hitting brawlers took down the newly formed tag-team after Burch and Lorcan applied the Crossface and Single-Leg Crab on Vink and Thorne respectively.
  • Candice LeRae defeated Kayden Carter: In the fifth qualifying match, LeRae reigned supreme over Carter, after applying the GargaNo Escape on her opponent. LeRae joins Chelsea Green, Tegan Nox, Mia Yim and Io Shirai in the Ladder match at Takeover.
  • Matt Riddle defeated Roderick Strong in a fast-paced matchup. Riddle overcame Strong after hitting the Bro Derek for the win. Post-match, Riddle was taken out by debutants Rinku Singh and Saurav Gujar, who stood tall with their manager Malcolm Bivens.
  • Triple H was joined by Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano in the ring. The frenemies continued trash-talking each other until Triple H announced that in two weeks, the duo will face off in an empty arena, with merely a referee to declare the result. The Game added that if their feud continues after that, they both will be evicted from NXT.
  • A graphic featuring Killer Kross aired on the screen, catching all the three men off guard to end the segment.

WWE NXT Takeaways

1. One Match To End Them All

Johnny Gargano vs Tommaso Ciampa is a feud that has gone over three years now, with both the men reuniting and splitting ‘n’ number of times in this period. Both men have played the role of a face and a heel in this feud, and their feud has seen all kinds of matchups already.

After Gargano turned on Ciampa last month, many complained about the repetitive nature of the feud. However, Triple H’s announcement that Ciampa vs Gargano in two weeks will be the last time ever they fight in NXT should be an interesting matchup, and thankfully put an end to a feud which should’ve ended some months ago.

The winner will be declared as the Heart and Soul of NXT, and it remains to be seen who ends up getting the title.

2. The Wrestling Show is Back

After complaints about the different format of NXT last week, WWE returned to what makes NXT the best show on WWE programming, a flurry of matches. With the perfect mix of wrestling and promo segments, the show felt fresh, and it helped to give screen-time to several superstars on the roster.

The better part about the matches were the stories attached to them, which helps to get the viewers invested instead of throwing two random guys together for a matchup.

3. A Killer Instinct

A vignette for a mystery superstar has been airing for quite a while now, and it was seemingly confirmed that it is indeed former TNA star Killer Kross. With Kross’ tape airing during the main-event segment itself, it can be assumed that he will be a major part of the roster, and could be given a straight push to the top.

Kross is also rumored to be associated with fellow ex-TNA star, Scarlett Bordeaux, as fans have noted the presence of a blonde woman in the vignettes airing for Kross. This could be the rise of a new power duo, similar to how Andrade and Zelina Vega ruled over the yellow brand a few years ago.
