The build to NXT Takeover scheduled for next week continued on this week’s program, which featured Royal Rumble winner Edge making an appearance on NXT.

Women’s Dusty Rhodes Class Semi-Finals | Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez def. Team Ninja

The team of Gonzalez and Kai continued to prove too much for their opponents, as they took down the babyfaces. Gonzalez hit a chokeslam on Catanzaro to win the match and advance to the finals.

Backstage: Toni Storm seemed confident ahead of her matchup against Mercedes Martinez and Io Shirai, and said that she will end the Takeover show with the title over her head.

Austin Theory def. Leon Ruff

Theory and Gargano proved a menace to Ruff before Gargano was hit by Ruff. Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell rushed down to help the North American Champion, but they were attacked by Shotzi Blackheart and Ember Moon. Gargano was soon ejected from the match, but Theory ended up winning after delivering the ATL.

Post-match, Theory continued to attack Ruff, before Dexter Lumis appeared and applied his Silence submission

A video package aired for Legado del Fantasma who said that their future is bright, and doom awaits for Curt Stallion and Lucha House Party.

A vignette was aired with the backstory for Tian Sha, who is the mysterious woman associated with Boa and Xia Li. Sha is shown as thousands of years old, with her history dating back to ancient China.

Dusty Rhodes Classic Quarter-Final | Legado del Fantasma def. Lucha House Party

The two teams produced a high flying battle, but the heels managed to resist the upbeat duo. A blind tag from Wilde brought in Mendonza, and the duo double-teamed Lince Dorado to finish up the battle.

Post-match, MSK entered the arena and had a staredown with the winners, who will be their opponents in the semi-finals next week.

Edge Interrupts Balor and Dunne

Pete Dunne and his entourage entered the arena and immediately went on a lookout for Finn Balor.

Pete Dunne entered the ring and called out Balor, who also joined in. Balor said Dunne is hiding behind the two clowns and proposed a match for Takeover.

Edge’s music hit and he joined the two stars in the ring, speaking about the passion that he has seen in NXT. He said that he will be watching the duo at Takeover, and may very well challenge the winner for a match at Wrestlemania.

Backstage: Gargano’s interview went well until he was informed of a match against Kushida at Takeover. He dragged the interviewer to William Regal’s office to fire her, but Kushida opened the door instead. A brawl broke out between the two stars backstage.

Jessi Kamea def. Toni Storm by DQ

The newest member of the Robert Stone Brand battled Storm, before Mercedes Martinez interrupted the matchup, causing a DQ.

Storm and Martinez brawled at ringside, before Io Shirai joined in, and delivered a moonsault. Shirai celebrated in the ring after laying out both her opponents for Takeover.

NXT Cruiserweight Championship Match | Santos Escobar(c) def. Curt Stallion

Scarlett watched the match from a platform high up in the arena, which distracted the champion Escobar. Stallion put in a valiant effort, but Escobar ended up pinning him after delivering a Phantom Driver, followed by a gutbuster.

Post-match, Karrion Kross marched down the ramp and took out Wilde and Mendonza, before entering the ring and threatening Escobar. Escobar slowly exited the ring as Kross and Scarlett looked on.

Backstage: Edge gave a fist bump to Bronson Reed, and said he won’t be revealing his decision so soon. Kross walked up to Edge and said he should be wise in making his decision, as Kross is going to regain the title he never lost.

Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Quarter-Final | Timothy Thatcher and Tommaso Ciampa def. The Undisputed Era

The unlikely partners advanced to the semi-finals, after a tremendous main event. Ciampa delivered a Willow’s Bell on Strong to pin the former Tag Team Champions.

Post-match, the other semi-finalists, The Grizzled Young Vets, entered the scene as a brawl broke out between them and the winners of the main-event.
