WWE NXT Results from July 3rd: New Faces, Winning Streak Continues, Tyler Breeze vs Roderick Strong

WWE NXT this week was filled with decent matches and continued the build towards Takeover:Toronto. With just over a month left for the Takeover, this NXT episode saw new rivalries being introduced and old ones renewed.

A total of five matches took place in the one-hour episode of NXT, which is an astonishingly high number when compared to RAW and SmackDown episodes from the past week.

The NXT Breakout Tournament continued with the introduction of even more new faces, and the eight-man tournament had its third match of the first round taking place this week.

Women’s Singles Match: Aliyah vs Mia Yim . Aliyah, a superstar who has spent a considerable amount of time in NXT faced up and coming superstar Mia Yim. Aliyah was accompanied by Vanessa Borne, and the heels tried to take advantage of the 2-on-1 situation. Result: Mia Yim won by pinfall and immediately took out Vanessa Borne as well. 

Post-match, Yim goes over to the commentary and challenges NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler.

Backstage: William Regal gives an update on Candice Le Rae, who was the subject of a vicious beatdown by Io Shirai. Forgotten Sons demand an opportunity at Street Profits’ titles, but their demands are rejected in favor of Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch, who’ll face the Street Profits in tag-team action next week!

Adam Cole Celebration Tour: Adam Cole visits a pizza store called “Gargano’s”, orders four pizzas and puts a picture of himself on the store wall. Gargano’s dad takes down the picture as Cole leaves. He visits a wrestling school which Gargano recently visited, hands the pizzas to the students and asks the wrestlers to go home and find a new hero.

Men’s Singles Match: Kushida vs Jeff Parker. Kushida continued his dominance against Parker from 3.0 tag team, who was making his NXT debut. Result: The master of submissions, Kushida, applied a Sakuraba lock for a quick and easy victory.

Backstage: Tyler Breeze reminds the world and Undisputed Era that he was once the king of NXT and everyone needs a refresher on why NXT was N-X-Breeze.

A coming soon vignette is aired for former Sanity member Killian Dain, who appears to have moved to NXT full-time.

NXT Breakout Tournament First Round Match: Cameron Grimes vs Issiah Scott. Grimes, f.k.a Trevor Lee and Scott f.k.a Shane Strickland produce an entertaining encounter in their NXT debuts. Result: Cameron Grimes wins the match and advances to the semi-finals, where he’ll face the winner of Dexter Lumis (Samuel Shaw) vs. Bronson Reed (Jonah Rock).

Women’s Singles Match: Bianca Belair vs Priscilla Zuniga. Result: Belair defeated Zuniga in a squash match. Zuniga is a former IMPACT Knockout Division superstar, who is easily taken down by Belair.

Backstage: Matt Riddle is shown working hard in the Performance Center, he talks about his career in UFC, and now NXT. He talks about people being afraid of him.

Men’s Singles Match: Tyler Breeze vs Roderick Strong. Breeze wrestles his first match on NXT in years, as he took on Roderick Strong of the Undisputed Era. Breeze has had his issues with the TUE and looks set to feud with them in the lead-up to Takeover:Toronto. Result: Roderick Strong wins the match-up with the help of his TUE partner Bobby Fish.
