WWE NXT aired this week with the continuation of the Dusty Rhodes Classic, with the start of the inaugral edition for the Women’s division. Beth Pheonix returned to commentary after working remotely during the pandemic.

1. Dusty Rhodes First Round | Leon Ruff and Kushida def. The Way

Kushida teamed up with former North American Champion to take out the heels and pinned the current champion, Gargano, after dropping him with a suplex. The faces advanced to the quarterfinals to face Grizzled Young Vets.

Pete Dunne cut a promo and challenged Finn Balor for the NXT title. Dunne listed his achievements and the work he put in to create the NXT UK brand, and now it’s his time to shine on the main NXT show.

Backstage: Malcolm Bivens hyped up Tyler Rust, who secured a match against Bronson Reed after speaking to William Regal.

2. Karrion Kross def. Ashante ‘Thee’ Adonis

Kross hit multiple suplexes followed by a deadly forearm to finish off Adonis in a quick fashion. Post-match, Kross hit Adonis’ partner Desmond Troy and locked him in the Kross Jacket submission.

A vignette aired for MSK following their debut last week. The duo seemed confident that they will win the tourney.

Mercedes Martinez and Toni Storm issued a warning to Kayden Carter and Kacy Catanzaro ahead of their first-round match later in the night.

3. Dusty Rhodes First Round | Lucha House Party def. Imperium

Gran Metallik and Lince Dorado ended up picking a huge win over the former NXT and NXT UK Tag Team Champions. Dorado hit a Shooting Star Press on Barthel to pick up the win and will face Legado del Fantasma in the quarterfinals.

Post-match, Alexender Wolfe of Imperium appeared on the ramp and stared down the winners, as the segment ended with Wolfe joining his mates in the Imperium pose

A video aired from the Fight Pit weigh-ins earlier, where Ciampa was listed at 205 and Thatcher at 225. A brawl broke out after Thatcher ignored a handshake, and William Regal along with other officials had to break it out.

In the ring, Regal introduced Beth Pheonix who spoke about the Women’s Evolution and kicked off the inaugural Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, as all the eight teams looked on.

4. Women’s Dusty Rhodes First Round | Team Ninja def. Mercedes Martinez and Toni Storm

The heels used their size advantage to dominate the proceedings but Io Shirai appeared out of nowhere and took out Martinez, allowing Carter and Catanzaro to apply the finishing touches, with Catanzaro hitting a 450 for the win.

Finn Balor demanded a match against Pete Dunne but first wanted to take down Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch. Regal asked him to find a partner, but Balor said he has no friends.

Backstage: Isaiah ‘Swerve’ Scott ran into Bronson Reed and gave him some advice, but Reed didn’t look too pleased.

Backstage: It was announced that Adonis will not feature in the Dusty Rhodes Classic, and his partner Desmond Troy will get a replacement soon.

5. Bronson Reed def. Tyler Rust

With Malcolm Bivens at ringside, Rust looked to take out Reed, but the Colossal Reed prevailed after hitting the Tsunami Splash. Post-match, Bivens encouraged Rust after the loss and shook his hand.

Finn Balor walked up to the Undisputed Era in the locker-room and made arrangements with Kyle O’Reilly to team up with him next week.

6. Lucha House Party Brawls With Escobar

Santos Escobar came out and cut a promo on how he is the greatest champion in NXT, ahead of Johnny Gargano and Finn Balor. Escobar said that Mendonza and Wilde will win the Tag Team Titles soon. Lucha House Party interrupted and a brawl broke out, and Curt Stallion joined forces with LHP. The babyfaces stood tall after clearing the ring.

7. Fight Pit | Timothy Thatcher def. Tommaso Ciampa

The two stars starred in the gruelling main-event, where they used several devastating moves inside the steel chamber. Thatcher survived and ended up appying the Stretch Muffler and Ciampa tapped out, giving Thatcher a huge win over the former NXT Champion.
