WWE NXT Results, September 16: Damian Priest and Breezango Retain Their Titles

NXT returned to its Wednesday time-slot again, as the black-and-gold brand looked to take down the supremacy of AEW Dynamite.

Io Shirai def. Shotzi Blackheart

The non-title match opened the evening which ended up with Shirai picking up a hard-fought victory with the moonsault.

The duo shook hands after the match, and a Battle Royal to determine No.1 contender for Shirai was announced for next week.

Tommaso Ciampa def. Desmond Troy

The former Denzel Dejournette, who is now known as Desmond Troy, was no match for Ciampa, who picked up an easy win with the Willow’s Bell.

Post-match, Jake Atlas promised to take revenge next week on Ciampa, who smiled on from the ring.

Backstage: Drake Maverick was confident that he and Killian Dain will get on the same page ahead of their tag-team match against Undisputed Era

The Era of Prince

The new NXT Champion, Finn Balor cut a promo and said it took him several years to reach the top, and he won’t be leaving the spot anytime soon.

Kushida def. Austin Theory

Austin Theory put forth an open challenge which was accepted by Kushida. The Japanese star picked up the win with the Hoverboard Lock.

The Mess at Gargano’s

Candice LeRae addressed Tegan Nox’s actions from last week and looked forward to the Battle Royal next week.

Gargano was frustrated due to his TV being broken and said that he has ordered a new 100 inch TV set.

NXT Tag Team Championship: Breezango def. Imperium

In a long and hotly contested tag team action, Breezango retained in the rematch after Breeze hit a hurricanrana on Aichner for the win.

Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter def. Xia Li and Jessi Kamea

The forgotten members of the Women’s Division competed in the tag match ahead of the Battle Royal next week, which saw Catanzaro and Carter pick up the win after hitting a double team maneuver on Li.

Tegan Nox cut a promo and said she just wanted to reignite the friendship with LeRae, but since it is not going to happen, she will focus on becoming the No.1 contender next week.

Killian Dain and Drake Maverick vs. The Undisputed Era

Drake Maverick went at it alone against Fish and Strong, before Killian Dain joined towards the end of the match. Fish used a chair on Dain which led to the DQ finish.

Post-match, Drake and Dain cleaned house but Dain ended up dropping Drake with a big punch.

Backstage: Jake Atlas was attacked in the parking lot by Tommaso Ciampa, but a few officials and Kyle O’ Reilly made the save. O’Reilly had strong words for Ciampa for his attack.

William Regal announced a Gauntlet Eliminator for next week, with the winner getting a shot at Finn Balor’s NXT Championship.

NXT North American Championship: Damian Priest (c) def. Timothy Thatcher

Damien Priest retained his title in the main event of the evening as he took down the submission specialist with the Reckoning for the win.
