WWE RAW Results and Highlights
The Apex Predator, Randy Orton, kicked off this week’s RAW with an in-ring promo and called out AJ Styles. Orton and Styles argued about who can hit the best RKO, only to get interrupted by Drew McIntyre who challenged them both for a Triple Threat Match.
Drew McIntyre def. Randy Orton and AJ Styles: Orton and Styles continued their mind games throughout the match after Orton took out McIntyre with steel steps. Styles attempted to hit RKO on Orton, twice, but Orton countered and hit Styles Clash for a nearfall. Orton then hit an RKO on Styles, but McIntyre sneaked in and hit the Claymore Kick on Orton, and pinned Styles to secure the win.
Ricochet def. Mojo Rawley: Rawley tried to overpower Ricochet with speed and strength but The One and Only was quicker and more agile. Ricochet hit the Recoil and 630 from the top rope to secure the win.
Charlotte Flair def. Sarah Logan: The match ended real quick after Logan tapped out to the Figure Eight.
WWE Champion Brock Lesnar entered the ring with Paul Heyman, to loud boos and “You Suck” chants from the crowd. The Champion and his manager almost walked out but came back for a promo. The crowd was booing so loud that even Heyman’s voice through the mic could not be heard. WWE 24/7 Champion R-Truth interrupted Heyman and what transpired next was one of the funniest segments in recent times, even Lesnar couldn’t stop laughing.
R-Truth cut a promo and said that he is entering the Royal Rumble. While everyone thought Truth was challenging to eliminate Lesnar, he was, in fact, challenging Paul Heyman, thinking Heyman has entered the Rumble. Truth, after realizing he has to face Lesnar, “undeclared” his entry from the Rumble match. Lesnar then ended the segment with a clothesline and an F5 to Truth.
Mojo Rawley attacked and pinned Truth, while he was being helped to the backstage, to become the new WWE 24/7 Champion.
Bobby Lashley def. Rusev: Lashley hit a massive spear on Rusev outside the ring but The Bulgarian Brute recovered soon to hit the Machka Kick. Rusev went for the Accolade, but Lana created a distraction. Liv Morgan came out to confront Lana but The Ravishing Russian grabbed a drink from a fan and threw it on Morgan’s face and later tossed her on to the barricade. Lashley took advantage of the distraction to hit another Spear and pin Rusev for the win.
Backstage: Lana challenged Rusev and Liv Morgan for a mixed tag team match next week on RAW and the challenge was accepted later.
Viking Raiders def. Singh Brothers: WWE RAW Tag Team Champions issued an open challenge that was answered by the Singh Brothers. The Champions made quick work of the challengers after delivering the Viking Experience to secure the win.
Becky Lynch and Asuka officially signed the contract for the RAW Women’s Championship match at Royal Rumble. The Empress sprayed the Green Mist into Becky’s eyes, said something in Japanese, and left the ring. An angry and blind Lynch warned that if she is going down at the Rumble, she will make sure to take Asuka down with her.
Aleister Black def. Buddy Murphy in yet another brilliant matchup after Black hit multiple Black Mass to pick up the pinfall victory.
Erick Rowan def. enhancement talent is a squash match.
Seth Rollins and AOP def. Kevin Owens, Samoa Joe, and Big Show in a Fist Fight: AOP attacked Big Show before the match could start, but Owens and Joe made the save with kendo sticks. Tables came out early and the action spilled everywhere, especially near the commentary table where Owens and Jow pulled some stunning moves.
Rollins, who was getting mauled by Big Show in the ring asked Buddy Murphy, who was still at ringside all this while, for help. Murphy entered the ring and to everyone’s shock, delivered a low blow to Big Show. Meanwhile, AOP took control at the end of the ramp and slammed Owens and Joe through the commentary table. AOP returned to the ring and put Show through a table after which Rollins hit a Stomp. The referee rang the bell, as Owens, Joe, and Show could not continue the match. Murphy celebrated with the Monday Night Messiah and AOP in the ring to end the show.
Takeaways from Monday Night RAW
1. Royal Rumble Match Tease?
Liv Morgan followed through on her promise to be in Rusev’s corner as he battled Bobby Lashley this week on RAW, but inadvertently cost him the match when Lana attacked her at ringside and caused a distraction. Following the victory, it appears that Lana grew in confidence since she went backstage and challenged Rusev and Liv to a mixed tag team match next week on Raw. Lashley wasn’t impressed and it looked as though the couple was about to have their first argument.
Could this be a match that WWE is teasing for the Royal Rumble pay-per-view? If the match fails to have a definitive ending next week then it’s likely that there will be a rematch in Texas.
2. Drew McIntyre Actually Works As a Face
Drew McIntyre seems to be the obvious pick when it comes to winners for the upcoming Royal Rumble match, but the former Champion recently went through a face turn that many believed wouldn’t work. This week on RAW, it was quite obvious that he was the biggest face in a match that also included Randy Orton and AJ Styles.
The Scottish star went on to win the match which means that WWE could be set to push him into the main event level of the company following his successful face turn.
3. Becky Lynch Is Out For Revenge
Ahead of this week’s RAW, Becky Lynch challenged Asuka to a match at the Royal Rumble because she had something to prove to herself after losing to The Empress of Tomorrow at last year’s show. At their contract signing on RAW, Asuka spat green mist in the face of Lynch, who then struggled to see throughout her promo but made it clear that her intentions had now changed, she is no longer going after Asuka because she needs to prove that she can beat her, but because she wants to exact some revenge for the green mist attack.
4. Buddy Murphy Joins The Dark Side
It was impressively booked by WWE’s creative this week on RAW since Buddy Murphy was at ringside throughout the main event match between Kevin Owens, Samoa Joe, Big Show, Seth Rollins, and AOP, but despite Rollins pleading for him help a number of times throughout the match, Murphy didn’t seem phased. It was only when Murphy decided to low blow Big Show and throw him through a table that it was made clear that Murphy was on Rollins’ side.
Murphy has faced three straight losses to Aleister Black and it appears that the former Cruiserweight Champion now believes that Rollins can help him move forward in his career. It will be interesting to see if he’s right. Will Black join hands with Owens and Joe?
