Survivor Series is now on the horizon and is WWE’s penultimate pay-per-view of the year. There were many questions heading into this week’s episode of Raw, mostly surrounding Randy Orton and who is next in line for the WWE Championship.
The Miz Attempts to Cash-in on The Viper
This week’s show kicked off with the WWE Champion who still clearly has a target on his back. Orton stated that he is in the current position because he is the best, and then challenged anyone in the locker room to take the title from him. The Viper was then interrupted by Alexa Bliss who provided the distraction for a Claymore from Drew McIntyre.
The Miz looked to capitalize on the Claymore to cash-in his contract but before he could officially cash-in his case, McIntyre returned and cleaned house.
Backstage: The Miz made it clear that the bell never rang so he never cashed in his contract. The Miz blamed Drew McIntyre for the failed cash-in and challenged him to a handicap match later in the night.
Guitar on a Pole Match: Jeff Hardy def. Elias
After weeks of issues, Hardy and Elias finally collided in a brutal Guitar on a Pole match which saw Hardy walk out victorious in a short bout. The former World Champion was able to climb the ropes and take down the guitar before hitting it over Elias’ back.
Women’s Tag Team Championship: Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax def. Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke
Before the match could get underway, Lana made her way to the ring since she was the only woman missing from Team Raw. Brooke showed signs of improvement in the ring, and Lana tried to interfere in the match numerous times but in the end, it was The Ravishing Russian who cost Rose and Brooke the match when Brooke was distracted and walked into a Kirofuda Clutch.
Backstage: Randy Orton told Charly Caruso that he was going to show Drew McIntyre how easy it was for the hunters to become the hunted sooner rather than later.
Bobby Lashley def. R-Truth
R-Truth was open to Lashley pinning him and even lay down for him, but after he refused, Truth tried to fight back. After an impressive spear followed by The Full Nelson, Truth was easily defeated. After the match, Truth was locked in the Full Nelson for a second time.
New 24/7 Champion: Drew Gulak tried to run to the ring and pin the 24/7 Champion but Lashley intervened and locked him in the Full Nelson before putting him on top of R-Truth for the three-count.
Survivor Series Qualifier: Braun Strowman def. Keith Lee and Sheamus
AJ Styles cut a promo where he put forward the reasons why he should be captain of Team Raw at Survivor Series. Sheamus and Keith Lee were introduced to the ring and they then refused to call AJ their captain.
Braun Strowman interrupted and claimed that he was on Team Raw, without qualifying, before Adam Pearce claimed that no one would step in the ring with Strowman so he could qualify.
AJ Styles then pitched the idea of a triple threat which pitted Strowman against Lee and Sheamus. If Strowman wins then he qualifies for Team Raw.
The match was made official and went underway right away with Lee and Sheamus teaming up at one point to take down The Monster Among Men. Sheamus then turned his attention to Lee, before Strowman put both men through the barricade.
In the end, Strowman was able to qualify after Lee was Brogue Kicked out of the ring, and The Monster Among Men delivered a running powerslam to Sheamus.
After the match, AJ Styles tried to get Team Raw to shake hands. Lee and Strowman obliged but Sheamus instead went in for the hug before delivering a Brogue Kick to Strowman. Lee then took out Sheamus and Styles took out Lee to end the segment.
Backstage: Angel Garza cut an interesting promo regarding his character where he said that the way the audience feels about him is the same way he feels about them.
Firefly Fun House: Bray Wyatt and Alexa Bliss came back into the Firefly Fun House where Randy Orton was the main topic of conversation. Wyatt talked about Wyatt being a bad person a few years ago before the segment ended with Alexa Bliss showing off some new “powers.”
Nia Jax def. Lana
After their altercation earlier in the night, Nia Jax challenged Lana to a match and she seemingly accepted. Jax was out to destroy the Ravishing Russian and despite having the opportunity to pin Lana numerous times, she refused. In the end, Jax pinned Lana following a Samoan Drop.
After the match, Lana was put through the announce table for a seventh time in as many weeks.
The Hurt Business def. The New Day
The Hurt Business was on The VIP Lounge as Bobby Lashley continued to build to his match with Sami Zayn at Survivor Series. MVP also made it clear that they were coming for the Raw Tag Team Championship which brought out The New Day. Kofi Kingston stated that he had won more Championships than The Hurt Business combined which seemed to annoy the group even more.
After a verbal back and forth, The New Day and The Hurt Business collided in the ring with MVP on commentary. The Hurt Business was able to pick up a shock victory over the Raw Tag Team Champions when Shelton Benjamin and Alexander hit a Neutralizer/ Paydirt combination on Xavier Woods.
Backstage: Nikki Cross tried to reason with Alexa Bliss but when Bliss turned around it was clear that she was under The Fiend’s control.
Ricochet def. Tucker, Retribution Attacks
Mustafa Ali headed to the ringside area while the match was underway. Tucker had a new look this week on Raw when he took on Ricochet but the match was over quickly following the Recoil. After the match, Retribution invaded and attacked Tucker.
Ricochet was then thrown back into the ring and he was also attacked by the team. Mustafa Ali then told Ricochet that “no sin is forgiven until it is punished” when he asked why he was doing it.
Backstage: Drew McIntyre and Sheamus discussed Survivor Series and Sheamus looked to convince the former WWE Champion to join the Survivor Series men’s team but he said no.
Handicap Match: Drew McIntyre vs The Miz and John Morrison
The Miz challenged Drew to the match earlier in the night and the former WWE Champion was completely dominated by the numbers game in the opening stages of the match.
The Miz almost had the match won with The Skull Crushing Finale, but McIntyre kicked out. McIntyre turned the match around when Morrison and Miz collided with each other and the Scottish star was able to deliver the Futureshock DDT. McIntyre then ended the match with a Claymore to The Miz.
After the match, Randy Orton delivered a vicious RKO to the former Champion. The Fiend’s laugh then echoed throughout The Amway Center as the show went off the air.
