WWE Raw Results & Highlights
The Raw after Hell in a Cell started with Randy Orton and Baron Corbin beating down Rusev in the ring. Bobby Lashley appeared on the titantron and was shown to be at Rusev’s house. Lashley got into bed with Lana and said they are going to have a good time. An angry Rusev unleashed on Orton and Corbin who were laughing at ringside. He delivered superkick to both the superstars and walked away to end the segment.
Natalya defeated Lacey Evans in a Last Woman Standing match: Natalya took the fight to Evans and dominated early in the match but Evans took control once the fight spilled outside the ring. At the entrance of the ramp, Natalya countered Evans’ move and delivered a suplex and powerbombed her off the stage and through a table on the floor. Evans couldn’t beat the 10 count handing over the victory to The Queen of Harts.
The Viking Raiders defeated Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler in a non-title match: The match went back and forth before the Viking Raiders delivered the Viking Experience to Ziggler for the win.
Aleister Black defeated The Bollywood Boyz: Sunil and Samir Singh called out Black who was already waiting for a challenge. Black made quick work of The Bollywood Boyz but delivering a Black Mass to one of them and made the other one tap out to a new submission move.
The O.C. defeated Lucha House Party in a Six-Man Tag Match: The babyfaces kept the heels down early on in the match with high-flying aerial assaults but it was short-lived. The heels got back in control and Styles delivered a Phenomenal Forearm to win the match. Post-match, the heels bullied the babyfaces and Styles delivered a Styles Clash from the top rope to Dorado.
The Kabuki Warriors defeated Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair in a tag-team match: Miz TV with Flair and Lynch and guests was interrupted by Asuka and Kairi Sane who cut a promo in Japanese and it definitely sounded Badass! Both teams dominated throughout the match which saw great back and forth action. Towards the end of the match, Lynch applied Dis-Arm-Her to Sane but with the referee was distracted as he was checking on a neutralized Charlotte. Asuka spat the green mist on Lynch’s face and Sane rolled up The Man for the win.
Post-match, Charlotte attacked both Asuka and Sane but fell short to the numbers advantage. Former Women’s tag champions Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross rushed to make the save and cleared house to end the segment.
Ricochet defeated Apollo Crews: In a match that saw both men deliver one counter after another, Ricochet managed to hit a Recoil to get the pinfall victory.
Raw Main Event: Tyson Fury appeared on Raw and demanded an apology from Braun Strowman. Strowman interrupted and both men started trash-talking in the ring ending up in a brawl. Security split them up but they were not powerful enough to contain the big men as they broke free to attack each other again and again. The locker room came out and tried to restore order. Strowman finally walked out only to return and the brawl broke out once again and the show ended with chaos in the ring.
Takeaways from Monday Night Raw
1. The Universal Champion Absconding
Seth Rollins is arguably the face of the company currently, and as the top champion of RAW, he is expected to be on every show. However, WWE did a smart job by keeping the Beastslayer away from the red brand’s outing this week, as he would have received an overly negative reaction from those in attendance.
Roman Reigns received one of the loudest and longest boos in history when he appeared on RAW following WrestleMania 33, where he defeated The Undertaker in an underwhelming main event. Rollins would have suffered a similar fate after the disastrous main-event last night, but thankfully WWE kept him out of action.
Imagine Rollins cutting a promo on how he ‘burnt it down’.
2. WWE Remembers That They Have More Superstars
This episode of RAW was presented as a Draft Showcase, for the superstars to make a name for themselves a few days before the Draft on Friday Night Smackdown. Superstars like Aleister Black, The Bollywood Boyz, The Lucha House Party and Apollo Crews featured in proper matchups during the show, a welcome change from the usual names.
With the Wild Card Rule coming to an end soon, WWE will have to start utilizing superstars who have been on sidelines for long. It is a tragedy that Black, who has one of the best characters in wrestling currently, has managed to wrestle just one high profile match, and that too against Cesaro, without a proper build.
Hopefully, WWE starts utilizing superstars like Black, Buddy Murphy, Ali, Rusev, etc in a better fashion, thus creating new stars in the company.
3. A Marriage Crisis
Rusev was ‘cucked’ in the main event of RAW last week as his wife Lana seemingly ditched him for The Almighty Bobby Lashley. After Lashley and Lana were seen going to bed together, Rusev snapped and laid a massive beat-down to Randy Orton and King Corbin.
This storyline is working in favor of Rusev, as he is slowly getting over with the fans as a sympathetic babyface. Rusev has faced the brunt of inconsistent booking for far too long, and he could finally get a chance to become a top face on the roster.
4. Champions Undermined, Yet Again!
The RAW tag-team champions, Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler faced off against The Viking Raiders during RAW and were defeated cleanly by pinfall by the former NXT Tag Team Champions.
We have mentioned it several times in the past about how WWE needs to fix the obsession with creating new challengers by having the champions pinned in non-title bouts. The Viking Raiders will face the champions for the championship next week and they will be expected to win after being on a mean streak for months now.
5. GET THESE HANDS
In a very awkward finish to RAW, Braun Strowman and heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury squared off inside the ring. After things got heated between the two, the security and the RAW locker-room intervened. Both the superstars tried to get their hands on one another for a solid ten minutes, but no real action came of it.
It is believed that Fury is saving himself for a big fight against his nemesis Deontay Wilder, which was the reason behind him throwing mild punches. Strowman and Fury are expected to battle at WWE Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia, and it could be reminiscent of Big Show vs Floyd Mayweather from WrestleMania 24.
