WWE SmackDown Results and Highlights

8-Man Tag Team Match | The New Day and The Usos def. The Miz, John Morrison, Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler: This week’s SmackDown started with The Usos inviting Miz, Morrison, Roode and Ziggler for a Superkick party. The heels isolated Kingston early in the match but the former WWE Champion came back strongly after the commercial break to tag in Big E.

The end of the match action saw Morrison halting Big E’s momentum while Ziggler and Roode delivered a Spinebuster/Zig-Zag combo to Jimmy Uso. Jey Uso broke the count and Superkicked Roode to pin him for a 3-count victory.

Backstage: Tucker confronted Mandy Rose for inviting Dolph Ziggler to crash the date last week and hurting Otis in the process. Sonya Deville comforted Rose by saying that Ziggler was more of Rose’ “type”.

Renee Young interviewed Lacey Evans where the Sassy Southern Belle said she would defeat all five women at Elimination Chamber to face Bayley for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

Symphony of Destruction Match | Braun Strowman and Elias def. Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro: The faces got the upperhand early in the second Symphony of Destruction match in the history of WWE, but the heels turned the tide momentarily when Sami Zayn hit Strowman with a keyboard in a no-disqualification match.

Nakamura crashed into a Gong after Elias dodged a Kinshasa. Elias then delivered a top rope elbow to Cesaro on to a table outside the ring while Strowman powerslammed the King of Strong Style on to a Piano to pick up yet another win over the former Intercontinental Champion.

Bella Twins Announced For WWE Hall of Fame 2020: Alexa Bliss introduced Nikki and Brie Bellas as the inductees in the 2020 Hall of Fame. The twins, who are both pregnant, came out and addresses the WWE Universe. Brie’s husband, Daniel Bryan, came out with their daughter Birde and congratulated his wife and her sister before walking to the ring for his match.

Daniel Bryan def. Heath Slater: Earlier in the show, Slater confronted Bryan and asked for a rematch and Drew Gulak offered to help him with a powerpoint presentation on how to beat Bryan. It was not much of a contest as Bryan defeated Slater quickly with a Running Knee.

Backstage: Mandy Rose was waiting for her car when Dolph Ziggler offered to give her a ride which she accepted. Otis, who was hiding behind a stack of boxes came out after they left and he definitely looked upset and angry with how things are turning out.

No. 1 Contender’s Match: Naomi def. Carmella: Naomi took on Carmella to determine Bayley’s opponent for the SmackDown Women’s Championship match at WWE Super ShowDown next week as WWE creates history in Saudi Arabia. The champion came down to be at ringside but referee Jessica Carr sent her packing as she did not want Bayley to interfere in the match in any way.

Carmella scored a couple of nearfalls in a match that saw a lot of back and forth action. Naomi delivered the Blockbuster and a Split Legged Moonsault to pin the Princess of Staten Island and secure the win. Naomi will face Bayley next week in a historic showdown.

The Fiend meets a returning Goldberg: Golberg returned to SmackDown after a long time and cut a promo, only to be interrupted by the Firefly Fun House. Bray Wyatt introduced his friends to Goldberg and said that there is someone who is interested to meet him.

The lights went out for a while and cam back with The Fiend standing behind Goldberg. The Hall of Famer seemed unfazed with his Super ShowDown opponent as he delivered a massive Spear to the WWE Universal Champion. The lights went off again and The Fiend disappeared while his laugh was heard echoing through the arena. Goldberg stood tall in the ring to close the show.

WWE SmackDown Takeaways

1. A Mystery Incoming?

The Usos and New Day together in the ring will never cease to amaze the WWE Universe, and the two teams have dished out some iconic moments over the past few years on SmackDown.

This week, the two teams teamed up in the first match of the night, but there was a peculiar sight during the matchup. While Big E was in the ring running things, the screen glitched for a bit, indicating a possible new team in the division. A mysterious force is about to hit SmackDown, and it could be fun to see a new addition to the already stacked division.

2. The Bellas, Deserving or Not?

The Bellas were officially announced for the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2020 when the duo appeared on A Moment of Bliss. Brie’s husband, Daniel Bryan and their daughter also made their way out to celebrate this announcement.

There were talks of whether the Bellas deserve to join the HoF, which is absolutely nonsensical. They may not have been better than any of the Four Horsewomen when it came to performing inside the ring, but they had a major role to play during the Divas Era of WWE. Along with their reality shows, The Bellas made a major mainstream impact, and have earned their right to join the Class of 2020.

The Hall of Fame has also changed the ways in the last few years to include more and more popular names, which would make for a better media headline. This could be the reason behind the Bellas getting in so soon.

3. Feel the Glow, or Not?

Naomi and Carmella had quite a sloppy match this week to determine the No.1 contender for Bayley’s Smackdown Women’s Championship. Both the ladies are perfectly fine wrestlers, as showcased by their recent encounters on SmackDown in the last few weeks. However, such matches highlight the importance of the Four Horsewomen to the Women’s Division and why they receive the amount of push they do.

Naomi facing off against Bayley at WrestleMania seems like a real possibility at this point, but WWE would be smart to bring back “The Boss” Sasha Banks and have a month-long feud between the two best friends leading up to the Show of Shows.

4. The Monstrous Spear

Goldberg may have last wrestled full-time over two decades ago, but the former Universal Champion knows how to hype a match like no-one else. Very few individuals have stood up to The Fiend, and taken none of his nonsense, and Goldberg is one of those select few.

Goldberg realizing that the Fiend has teleported into the ring and was standing right behind him was a wonderful moment and just painted the picture of Goldberg: The Badass.
