WWE SmackDown Results and Highlights

Daniel Bryan kicked off the show and brought up his MITB opportunity, talking about his previous stint as the MITB holder. He called out King Corbin for using unfair tactics to take out his friend Drew Gulak. Corbin interrupted and the two threw verbal jabs at each other, with Bryan bringing up Corbin’s failed cash-in three years ago.

  • Daniel Bryan def. King Corbin by DQ: The two competitors squared off but the match couldn’t get a proper finish as Corbin attacked Bryan with a ladder. Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro joined in the beatdown post-match.

Braun Strowman’s promo was interrupted by Bray Wyatt, who brought up the history of the champion. Wyatt reminded him that Strowman is the black sheep while he is the shepherd, and the shepherd wants to bring the sheep back and teach him a lesson.

  • Sheamus def. Leon Ruff: An angry Sheamus went right at it and delivered one power move after another, finishing the match with the Brogue Kick.

Otis and Mandy Rose were interviewed backstage, and Rose promised to take down former champion Carmella to enter the MITB ladder match. She ended the interview with a kiss for a stunned Otis.

  • Carmella def. Mandy Rose: Sonya Deville provided the distraction with her words, as Carmella took advantage and pinned Rose to qualify for the ladder match. Post-match, Deville snapped and laid down a vicious beatdown on her former best friend.

A trainer attended to Rose backstage as Otis stood by her side. Dolph Ziggler came in to check on her, leaving Otis quite angry.

  • The Forgotten Sons def. The New Day: The newest members of the roster proved their mettle by taking down the champions, with a double team maneuver on Kofi for the victory.

Tamina’s backstage interview was interrupted by Sasha Banks but it was only a mere distraction as Bayley attacked Snuka from behind. Lacey Evans made the save as all the four women brawled backstage.

Dolph Ziggler and Sonya Deville were backstage and he promised to take down Otis, and become the Champion once again, to make Deville feel better.

  • Otis def. Dolph Ziggler: In a rematch from WrestleMania, Otis reigned supreme and booked the fifth spot in the MITB ladder match, after pinning Ziggler with the Caterpillar.

WWE SmackDown Takeaways

1. Surprising Showstealer

The best feud on WWE programming now is the one featuring Dolph Ziggler, Otis, Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville, and it couldn’t be any more surprising. All four individuals along with Tucker, have elevated this to a gold mine and WWE is making sure they get all the spotlight they deserve.

Ziggler’s character, who loves Mandy and is trying to win her back by siding with Deville, is amazingly hilarious, while Otis continues to be the bucketload of charisma. Deville has emerged as the star of this feud and surely is next in line for a title shot.

Otis’ entry into the MITB will surely make for an interesting turn of events, and with both the ladder matches taking place at the same time, chaos is guaranteed.

2. King Corbin’s Yet Another Army

A new month and a new set of lackeys for King Corbin. He has been part of a variety of three-men stable at this point, and it is getting extremely stale. With Sami Zayn out of action due to COVID-19 concerns, WWE has decided to give his buddies to Corbin for the time being, who are continuing the tired trope of 3-on-1 beatdown.

The Lone Wolf carrying a barrage of superstars with him all the time is senseless, and WWE must start booking him in proper 1-on-1 feuds in the coming months. He has good potential of being a top heel for a long time, but these three-man bands are just not cutting it.
