WWE SmackDown Results, Oct 9: Night 1 of WWE Draft, The New Day Split

The first night of the WWE Draft kicked off on this week’s episode of SmackDown while Bayley defended her SmackDown Women’s Championship against former friend Sasha Banks. Kevin Owens also stepped up to the challenge of The Fiend in his first match on SmackDown.

Draft Pick Round 1: This week’s episode of SmackDown kicked off with the first names being chosen in the Draft and the only big move saw Seth Rollins taken over to SmackDown.

Drew Mcintyre, Asuka, and The Hurt Business remained on Raw while Roman Reigns remained on SmackDown and was joined by former teammate Seth Rollins.



Big E def. Sheamus: Falls Count Anywhere

After weeks of issues, Big E and Sheamus finally settled their differences this week on SmackDown in a falls count anywhere match. The match had some interesting moments which included Big E finding Booty O’s under the ring and then taping Sheamus’ ankles together.

Sheamus delivered White Noise through the windscreen of a car before Big E returned the favor and then delivered the Big Ending off a car and through a table.

Backstage: Following Big E’s win against Sheamus, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods returned in a backstage segment and made it clear that they were coming for those Tag Team Championships.



Roman Reigns Names the Stipulation for Universal Title Match

Jey Uso headed out to the ring to confront his cousin Roman Reigns just two weeks prior to their hotly anticipated Universal Championship rematch at Hell in a Cell.

Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman interrupted Jey Uso and made the announcement that there would be an ‘I Quit’ match inside Hell in a Cell in just over two weeks’ time.

Draft Pick Round 2: AJ Styles, Naomi, and Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler drafted over to Monday Night Raw while Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair were moved to SmackDown.

Backstage: AJ Styles seemed upset that he was in the second round of the draft when he felt that he should have been the first draft pick.



Matt Riddle and Jeff Hardy def. The Miz and John Morrison, The Freak Returns

This was a short match that saw Matt Riddle pick up the win with the pin on The Miz following The BroDerek.

After the match, Lars Sullivan made his return and took out Matt Riddle, Jeff Hardy and The Miz.

Draft Pick Round 3: Raw picked Ricochet, Mandy Rose, and The Miz and, John Morrison whilst SmackDown gained Dominik and Rey Mysterio as well as Jey Uso.



SmackDown Women’s Championship: Sasha Banks def. Bayley

Sasha Banks was able to defeat Bayley but only via disqualification after the Women’s Champion decided to use a chair. After the bell, Banks returned the beatdown that she suffered at the hands of her former friend and looked to injure Bayley’s neck before the brawl was broken up by WWE officials.

Backstage: Alexa Bliss told Kevin Owens to “LET HIM IN!”



SmackDown Tag Team Championships: The New Day def. Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro

Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods were able to better the Champions and become seven-time title holders after Trouble in Paradise followed by a splash from Xavier Woods.

Big E came down to the ring to celebrate with his long-time friends and teammates following the match.

Draft pick Round 4: Raw selected Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston, taking the SmackDown Tag Team Champions to Monday Night Raw, as well as Dana Brooke and Angel Garza while SmackDown selected Big E and split up The New Day as well as Mr. Money in the Bank Otis.

Backstage: Otis and Tucker were handed a letter from The Miz where it claimed that the star was continuing his lawsuit despite being drafted over to Raw.

Backstage: Following the events that transpired in the SmackDown Women’s Championship match, Sasha Banks announced that she would have another shot at the title inside Hell in a Cell.



The Fiend def. Kevin Owens

The Fiend picked up the victory as part of his first match on SmackDown which saw him pick up the win following the Mandible Claw.

After the match, Bliss and The Fiend shared a staredown to end the show.
