Dakota Kai & Io Shirai Halt Jessamyn Duke & Marina Shafir

This was the first time we were seeing Duke and Shafir on their own in a significant match and they held their own. Duke still seems a bit unpolished while Shafir too has room for improvement.

We could see these two on the main roster soon when that 4 Horsewomen vs 4 Horsewomen match takes place. The match wasn’t as good as the normal fare NXT puts up but it wasn’t bad either. The heels would come up short after Dakota Kai avoided a distraction and hit the Yakuza kick.

This feud does have interesting possibilities and it was a great idea to keep Shayna Baszler away. Overall, a decent start to the show.

Winners: Dakota Kai and Lo Shirai

Dominik Dijakovic Scares And Then Defeats Aaron Mackey

This was a fun match. It has been a while since we have seen a wrestler command so much fear in NXT. Mackey was reluctant to get into the ring with Dominik and we found out why when the match eventually started.

Mackey wasn’t allowed to even get a sense of what was happening before being hit with a barrage of fists and power moves. The match ended quite quickly in about two minutes.

Normally we are not great fans of squash matches but this one we enjoyed. Dijakovic has loads of talent and if you want a wrestler to make maximum impact then this is how you show him off to the world. It would be interesting to see him eventually go up against bigger names.

Winner: Dominik Dijakovic

Rating: Thumbs Up

Heavy Machinery Hold Off The Undisputed Era For A Win

Heavy Machinery went up against a couple of local talents and the match was one-way traffic as you would expect it to be. The team called These Guys barely got any offense in.

We all knew that this was all just a setup to get the Undisputed Era out and cause a distraction. One of the jobbers managed to get a cheap shot in but that didn’t last very long and Heavy Machinery won in an emphatic manner.

We are really loving the run that Heavy Machinery is having at the moment. It is also so good to see such a dominant face team. They are big and mean and yet people love them which is a rare thing in pro-wrestling further proving what a wonderful talent they are.

Winners: Heavy Machinery

Rating: Thumbs Up

A Main Event For The Ages

Anyone who tuned into NXT probably did it for this steel cage match and it delivered on so many levels. With a main roster debut imminent for both Aleister Black and Johnny Gargano, they both know that such chances to tear the house down in NXT are getting rarer and they grabbed this opportunity with both hands.

This was a match of epic proportions that did not feel rushed at all. The match would build up to slow crescendos, cool down and then get back at it again. There were so many legitimate close calls that it reminded you of the Undertaker and HBK match from WrestleMania 25.

They told a beautiful story where both men were so equally matched that nothing one threw at the other was good enough for a victory. Ultimately, the deciding factor came in the form of Ciampa and it was both heartbreaking and fun to see.

The momentary reunion of former tag team of Gargano and Ciampa was a great callback to their hey days as a really good tag team. Perfect way to keep the feud going.

Winner: Johnny Gargano

Rating: Thumbs Up

Overall Review: This was one of best NXT shows of the year. Every match had something to offer. The initial matches were short to accommodate that humongous main event but it did not feel like any corners were cut.

All the stories were told beautifully and perfectly summed up another great year for NXT. The feud between Gargano and Black is as hot as ever and the addition of Ciampa into the mix is a recipe for the perfect storm.

Even the video package guys were on fire and all the promos were some of the best we have seen in a long time. A truly satisfying show.

Overall Rating: Thumbs Up
