An Injured Jeff Hardy Carries a Tired/Un-interested Shelton Benjamin
This somehow turned out to be the biggest let down of the night. We were expecting this match to be a lot better but it felt like Shelton Benjamin had been pulled out of bed in the middle of a deep slumber.
Every bump he took seemed half-hearted and the match took place at a much slower pace than what these two men were capable of. It would have been understandable if Jeff Hardy wasn’t at his 100% given his injuries but it felt like it was Hardy who was trying to cover for Benjamin.
Hardy picked up the win and even thwarted an attack from Nakamura which means that he will probably lose on Sunday. Randy Orton watching like a deranged killer from the back was a nice touch though.

Samoa Joe Gets AJ Styles All Riled Up
The mind games have been great between these two but not once did they engage physically which is a different way to build up their match especially since we know that they are capable of putting on a great match.
The supposed letter from Styles’ wife dissing Styles as a bad father and a loveless husband was a work of genius. The reactions of Styles did occasionally seem a bit over the top but that is just how wrestling works so we are okay with what happened here.

Overall Review: Normally we are not left disappointed after a SmackDown episode but this was one of those rare episodes that managed to do that which is not a great thing as it happens to be the go-home show before SummerSlam.
Somehow this episode left a lot wanting and leaves us a bit apprehensive of many of the matches from the blue brand on Sunday. We hope WWE is able to prove us wrong but the probability of that happening seems to be very low.
