SmackDown has been a bit unsuccessful in recent times in hitting the mark. Let us find out if it is more of the same or if there was any improvement.

The New Day try to get some justice

Big Show vs. Kofi Kingston ended in a no-contest: The Bar winning the tag titles was definitely a surprise last week but the heel-turn of Big Show is one of those things that just doesn’t make any sense. At this point, Big Show turning between face and heel and back has become the norm, so much so that it would be weird if he stuck to one path.

Big E even alluded to this fact which was something. What made this segment even more ludicrous was that Kofi took on Big Show when Big E would have been a better candidate. Big Show handed the beating of a lifetime to Kingston. Big E and Woods caused the DQ to save Kingston and all three members of the New Day got destroyed for their troubles.

While this was entertaining, this segment highlighted everything that is wrong with the tag division. The Bar despite being the champions are playing second fiddle to a wrestler on the last leg of his career. The Big Show could have had a feud with pretty much anyone who is a single’s wrestler. There is no way the tag division or anyone involved here is going to benefit from all of this.

AJ Styles and Bryan cannot get on the same page again

The Usos def. AJ Styles & Daniel Bryan: More of the same drama continued from last week as Styles and Bryan battled the Usos and again came up short because of their inability to function as a team.

Last week it was bearable but this week it just felt underwhelming which is a crime considering the talent of the men involved. This is also the issue of having two of your biggest faces feuding for the title. There is just no easy way to make sense of it all.

Either someone should have turned or someone else should have gotten this title shot. Or, if this tag team thing is what WWE want to do then having them trying to outdo each other rather than make silly and goofy mistakes would be a better route to take.

This segment would have been okay if some mediocre wrestlers were involved but when AJ Styles, Daniel Bryan, and the Usos are in a match, it is natural to expect more which wasn’t what we got.

Charlotte does a crappy promo while Rusev and English take the most unentertaining route

In Charlotte and Becky Lynch, WWE have two of the very best in the women’s division feuding for the title and even though the heel-face dynamic is a bit skewed it can still be a lot more entertaining if the women had some in-ring time rather than weeks of promos.

Charlotte is usually pretty good on the mic but the material she had to work with tonight was worse than manure. This was a promo of the most generic nature and fans today are not going to invest in a feud if this is the best your title contender can deliver.

Rusev and Aiden English had a very quick match that took out any wind that this feud had. It had already started on shaky ground and instead of trying to consolidate the feud, WWE is simply meandering without any sense of direction. How silly it was for us to think that Rusev was finally going to get his due.
