Rumor Roundup Jan 18: Brock Lesnar’s WrestleMania Opponent, Kane vs The Fiend, Sasha Banks’ Injury

1. Tyson Fury Is Not Brock Lesnar’s WrestleMania Opponent

Recent rumors suggested that Tyson Fury would be the man to step up and challenge Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania if he’s able to defeat Deontay Wilder, but a new report by the Wrestling Observer states that Fury isn’t set to face The Beast regardless of whether he’s able to defeat Wilder next month.

Brock Lesnar’s current rumored opponent continues to be Cain Velasquez with many fans believing that he will eliminate Lesnar from the Royal Rumble match next weekend.

2. Jinder Mahal And Velveteen Dream Set For Royal Rumble Returns?

Jinder Mahal has been out of action since last summer following a knee injury, while a back injury had kept Velveteen Dream sidelined over the past few months, but PWinsider is now reporting that both stars are expected to make their return as part of the upcoming Royal Rumble match. When it comes to the women’s match, current rumors suggest that Nia Jax, Ruby Riott and Shayna Baszler will be amongst the surprise entrants.

3. Kane vs The Fiend in Saudi Arabia?

Last night on SmackDown, Kane made a special appearance to promote the upcoming Royal Rumble but was once again the target of The Fiend, before Daniel Bryan stepped in and helped his former Tag Team partner before The Fiend was able to attack. It’s thought that once The Fiend has taken out Daniel Bryan in a Strap Match next weekend, he could set his sights on Kane who he is rumored to be facing at the upcoming Saudi Arabia show which is yet to be named.

There have already been leaked images that suggest that this is the match that WWE is planning for next month’s event in the Middle East.

4. Kalisto Reportedly Re-signs With WWE

Kalisto has been mainly used as part of the Lucha House Party over the past few years but it appears that the former United States Champion is happy with his current role in WWE since it’s been reported by Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet that he has signed a new deal with the company.

While the exact details regarding Kalisto’s new deal are unknown, Satin reported that the former 205 Live star “feels as though he still has a lot left to accomplish in the company”.

5. Big Change Coming For WWE 24/7 Championship?

The 24/7 Championship was brought into WWE to be like the Hardcore title that once lit WWE TV in the early 2000s, but so far that hasn’t been the case. Instead, the 24/7 Championship has become a joke with R-Truth becoming a 30-time Champion inside a year.

WrestlingNewsco believes that this could be about to change since Mojo Rawley has expressed that he will no longer be playing chase with the title. This could be a sign that WWE believes that the Championship in that format has run its course and now there could be a much more traditional defense of the Championship moving forward.

6. Sasha Banks Injured?

Sasha Banks hasn’t wrestled on WWE TV since January 3rd when she and Bayley were on the losing end of a triple threat match that saw Lacey Evans and Dana Brooke pick up the win. For the past three weeks, WWE has promoted Banks vs. Evans but that match is still yet to happen since Banks was pulled due to an injury sustained in a fight with Evans last night.

There is now speculation that Banks is legitimately injured which is why she hasn’t faced The Sassy Southern Belle, but with rumors surrounding Bayley vs. Sasha at WrestleMania 36 in April, this could be a slow build towards Bayley turning on her long-time friend.

As ever, wrestling fans are reminded that the above are just rumors and should not be taken at face value as facts.
