Rumor Roundup Jan 21: Matt Hardy’s Future, CM Punk’s Return, Killer Kross, EC3

1. CM Punk Teases Royal Rumble Return

WWE’s first pay-per-view of 2020, Royal Rumble takes place this Sunday and fans are keeping an eye out for potential surprise returns at the Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas.

For their respective in-ring return, Edge and Paige must get medically cleared but CM Punk need only make a phone call and restore his relationship with WWE.

WWE On FOX recently asked which Superstar would possibly make a surprise appearance at the Royal Rumble. The Second City Saint dropped yet another tease in the form of Savio Vega’s “Kwang” persona.

WWE On Fox responded with a picture of Punk from when he invaded MKE Wrestling’s event for a quick GTS this past April. The ex-Superstar replied back with a Conor McGregor meme.

2. Matt Hardy Likely AEW-Bound

It’s been nine months since Jeff Hardy last competed in a WWE ring. On April 9, 2019, The Hardy Boyz defeated The Usos for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship. Jeff’s untimely hiatus has led to Matt Hardy’s sudden downfall and the latter is likely headed to AEW once his current contract expires.

Matt has been on a losing streak in recent weeks and got squashed by Erick Rowan on the latest edition of Monday Night RAW. His latest loss allowed him to trend worldwide on Twitter and the multi-time tag team champion tweeted that there aren’t any more WWE appearances left for him in the near future.

Rumors suggest that Hardy would soon be revealed as the leader of The Dark Order in AEW.

3. Killer Kross WWE-Bound

Killer Kross is the hottest free agent on WWE’s radar at the moment and reportedly had a meeting with Paul “Triple H” Levesque this past week.

While a surprise debut at the Royal Rumble could still be on the cards, WWE has seemingly confirmed Kross for WrestleMania 36.

Fightful Select reports that although Kross’ WrestleMania status is a lock, there has been a complete denial when asked about the meeting from the previous week.

“I was told pretty directly to not expect Killer Kross to be available for bookings during WrestleMania week.”

4. EC3 Injury Update

EC3 was sidelined with a concussion after working his last match in October. The former NXT Superstar hasn’t had a good time since his main roster debut and things don’t seem to get any better for him.

Fightful Select reports that EC3 is “progressing well” but doesn’t have a return timetable just yet.

“We’re told after a slow start. EC3 is progressing well after sustaining a concussion months ago.”

As ever, wrestling fans are reminded that the above are just rumors and should not be taken at face value as facts.
