Rumor Roundup Feb 8: Matt Riddle Heat, WWE Star Walks Out, Rusev’s Future

1. Matt Riddle Isn’t Liked By Vince McMahon

Matt Riddle was in his debut Royal Rumble for just 40 seconds in what many sources have reported as being a way to teach Riddle a lesson after a backstage confrontation with WWE Champion Brock Lesnar just hours before. Riddle has gone after both Lesnar and Goldberg on Social Media in the past and according to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, this behavior from the NXT Star has lead Vince McMahon to develop the impression that Riddle “has no respect for the hierarchy of the business.”

2. Rusev Currently Part Of a Contract Dispute?

Rusev hasn’t been seen on WWE TV in a number of weeks and it appears that the Bobby Lashley/Lana storyline could have come to an end now since Lashley and Rusev haven’t appeared to attempt to move the feud forward since last month.

According to a report by The Wrestling Observer, Rusev has been away from WWE TV because he’s currently in a contract dispute with the company. The former United States Champion is yet to sign a new deal with WWE despite the fact that his wife Lana announced back in 2019 that she had penned a new deal with the company.

3. Possible Reason Why The Mixed Match Challenge Didn’t Return?

The Mixed Match Challenge was a fantastic concept for WWE at one point and it was something that fans were tuning into on Facebook for a time, but when injuries meant that many of the teams were forced to have substitutions and WWE didn’t seem to be as interested in promoting the show, the numbers seemingly dwindled.

The recent earnings report shows that the numbers of the Mixed Match Challenge were much worse than expected and there is now speculation that this is the main reason why Facebook didn’t decide to renew for a new season.

4. Taynara Conti Walked Out Over Contract Issues

Taynara Conti was once WWE’s youngest talent and rose to fame when she was included in the Women’s WrestleMania Battle Royal a few years ago representing her native country of Brazil. In recent years, the 24-year-old has been plying her trade on NXT but a recent report from Fightful claims that Conti walked out of WWE last month after a dispute that is believed to be financially related.

This means that WWE has lost women’s talents including Killer Kelly, Alpha Female and now Conti in the space of a month.

5. The Revival Leaving WWE?

The Revival’s contract discussions have been at the forefront of WWE news for a number of months and it finally seems to have reached the point where WWE has given up. Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder reportedly turned down contracts worth around $700k a year and according to The Wrestling Observer, the duo will be free to leave the company in April.

Fightful’s update of this new from a few hours later states that while Dawson can leave in April, Wilder has had a few months added on by WWE and won’t be given the same release date.

6. Reason Why The IIconics Have Been Missing From WWE TV

Billie Kay and Peyton Royce were drafted to Monday Night RAW back in October and the company hasn’t done anything with them since then. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer noted that the reason for this was because WWE has taken them off TV and could now be looking to repackage the two Australian stars.

Royce and Kay have always been seen as a tag team and are former Women’s Tag Team Champions so it will be interesting to see what WWE can create moving forward for the two women.

As ever, wrestling fans are reminded that the above are just rumors and should not be taken at face value as facts.
