Anger Level at an All-Time High Backstage at SmackDown
Last Night’s episode of SmackDown seemed thrown together as the company looked to make the Elimination Chamber match official the same night. There was a different feeling surrounding the show which could have been something to do with the backstage atmosphere.
WrestleVotes reported ahead of the show that the anger level was at an all-time high from both the Superstars and the crew but there were no further details given. In recent weeks, it has been reported that last-minute script changes have dominated the Friday Night show and with Vince McMahon attending fewer events, there could be several issues brewing in the backstage area.
There Were Several Royal Rumble Pitches That Didn’t Happen
There were several questions coming out of the Men’s Royal Rumble match this year, which included whether or not Omos eliminating Rey Mysterio was a botch. According to a report by Fightful, this elimination went down exactly as planned, but there were several pitches that could have made more sense.
At one point, RETRIBUTION members were set to be intimidating at ringside, and Ricochet was set to be a much later entry, but the company decided that these didn’t fit. It was also noted that Bayley being eliminated by Bianca Belair happened too early in the match since Bayley’s elimination was missed as Mickie James made her entrance to the ring.
Aleister Black Still Not Being Mentioned Backstage
Aleister Black was last seen on WWE TV back in October when he was drafted over to SmackDown. Since then the former NXT Champion hasn’t been included in any creative plans for the company moving forward and interestingly wasn’t part of last month’s Royal Rumble.
RingSideNews recently asked about Black’s current WWE status and it appears that the update is that the star is still not being put into storylines. Black’s wife was fired from WWE back in November but that reportedly isn’t the reason behind his absence. The company had no plans for Black before Zelina Vega was fired and it appears to still be the same bleak outlook.
WWE Has Reportedly Decided Who Will Win Huge WrestleMania Match
It’s been noted over the past few weeks that WWE’s current plan is for Edge to challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania, but there were several rumors that stated that the company was having a hard time deciding on the winners.
According to a report by RingSideNews, the company has already made the decision when it comes to the winner of the match, which could easily go either way.
Last night, it was announced that Elimination Chamber will see a new challenger crowned for Reigns but it appears that The Tribal Chief is set to retain his Championship until at least WrestleMania.
WWE Freezes Salaries of Their Employees, Puts Raises on Hold
PWinsider is reporting that WWE recently had a meeting with their corporate employees where it was revealed that all of their salaries are now frozen and there will be no bonuses, while their raises are also on hold.
The report went on to reveal that the meeting saw a mostly negative reaction from many of the employees since many are now doing the job of several people after last year’s furloughs. This is thought to be due to the decrease in revenue they reported from Q4 2020. As of writing, it is unclear how long this freeze will be in effect.
Backstage Unhappiness Regarding Bad Bunny’s Inclusion in WrestleMania
Bad Bunny has been part of the WWE product over the past few weeks after being introduced at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view. There are now reports that the musician could be part of a tag team match at WrestleMania after training at WWE’s Performance Center.
According to a source from Sportskeeda, there are several WWE stars backstage who are unhappy about Bad Bunny’s inclusion in the Biggest Show Of The Year.
“I’m hearing that Bad Bunny is already at or going to be soon at the PC in Orlando, with Bow Wow expected soon. Bow Wow is wrapping up an album. While this is great news for social media, word has it that actual talent are not impressed by the move. Talent is concerned that time and effort will go into the rap stars, which leaves less effort being given to the actual wrestling product.”
As ever, wrestling fans are reminded that the above are just rumors and should not be taken at face value as facts
