Sasha Banks’ Botch Edited From SmackDown
Last night’s episode of SmackDown was pre-recorded ahead of the holidays since the show fell on Christmas Day. As part of the episode, Sasha Banks teamed with Bianca Belair to take on Women’s Tag Team Champions Asuka and Charlotte as well as Bayley and Carmella.
According to a report by Fightful, Banks actually dropped her SmackDown Women’s Championship on the way to the ring, and Bayley then found it hilarious, which is why there was a strange back and forth ahead of their match.
This moment was edited out of the show, along with several other awkward moments, since WWE had the power to overlook the episode before it went live this week.
Pat McAfee Written Off WWE TV
Pat McAfee has been an integral part of NXT TV over the past few months since the former NFL player has been part of a feud with Adam Cole.
Following his loss at WarGames, it appears that WWE has made the decision to write McAfee off WWE TV for the foreseeable future. The Wrestling Observer reports that it was WWE’s decision and that he could be back in the spring. The report went on to note that NXT is written well in advance and with long-term vision and last-minute changes to the program are reportedly rare.
WWE Interested in Signing Several IMPACT Wrestling Stars
The latest episode of The Wrestling Observer noted that WWE is currently interested in signing several stars from IMPACT.
WWE officials have reportedly already approached several stars whose contracts are set to expire soon, even though no names have been released. Ethan Page’s contract expires at the end of this year, while Jake Crist is currently a free agent.
Jordynne Grace and Rich Swann have contracts due to expire in May 2021, while Keira Hogan and several other stars are looking at deals ending in late 2021.
Current Plans for WWE Hall of Fame Ceremony in 2021
The 2020 Hall of Fame Ceremony is still yet to take place, even though all of the inductees were already named. Current reports from Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer suggest that this crop of inductees will now be added to the class in 2021 instead and that the ceremony could be a virtual one.
This means that it’s unlikely that there will be any new additions to the class this year, so The Undertaker could be forced to wait until fans are allowed back, in order to take his place among wrestling’s elite.
Two Title Matches Currently Scheduled for Royal Rumble
The 2021 Royal Rumble is now just over a month away and last night Daniel Bryan became the first WWE star to announce his entry into the men’s match.
Bryan’s announcement came as a surprise since the former World Champion has been rumored to be taking on Roman Reigns at the Royal Rumble for the Universal Championship. The Wrestling Observer recently noted that while plans are still subject to change, this still appears to be WWE’s current plan.
Bobby Lashley vs Riddle for the United States Championship is also a match that is still expected to take place.
“The next WWE PPV show is the Royal Rumble on 1/31, and there’s really no direction clear. At one point Reigns vs. Daniel Bryan and Bobby Lashley vs. Riddle were earmarked for the show, but when it comes to that far ahead, those things have probably changed a half dozen times by now.”
Vince McMahon Was Reportedly Interested in Buying Playboy
Vince McMahon has been known to splash out money over the years, but on a recent episode of his 83 Weeks Podcast, Eric Bischoff revealed that Vince and Linda McMahon were once looking into buying Playboy.
“I hooked up Joe Francis and WWE to do a show/pay-per-view. I set up a meeting with Joe Francis and Linda McMahon because Vince [McMahon] was interested in buying Playboy and Joe Francis was also interested in buying Playboy for different reasons so they both had different goals. They were both interested in the same property so I got those two together and Linda had a meeting with Joe in Los Angeles because of me.”
As ever, wrestling fans are reminded that the above are just rumors and should not be taken at face value as facts
