Jey Uso vs. Roman Reigns Wasn’t the Original Plan for Hell in a Cell
Despite kicking off last month’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view and easily stealing the show, it is being reported that Roman Reigns vs Jey Uso for the Universal Championship wasn’t actually the original plan for the show.
Instead, The Wrestling Observer is reporting that Roman Reigns was preparing to defend his Championship in a fatal four-way match against Bray Wyatt’s Fiend, Braun Strowman, and an unnamed third star. This is why Alexa Bliss had a staredown with Reigns a few weeks ago on SmackDown, but after Wyatt and Strowman were moved over to Raw, WWE changed their plans.
Reason Why Chad Gable and Big E Missed Last Week’s Episode of SmackDown
Chad Gable was able to revert back to his old name a few weeks ago on SmackDown and WWE is yet to equalize on the change of name. Both Gable and Big E were missing from SmackDown last week and the former Tag Team Champion wasn’t part of the show again this week, The Observer noted that this was just down to creative having nothing for them at present.
Big E was recently split from The New Day so that he could remain on SmackDown and he was given a small part in a backstage segment with The Street Profits on this week’s show.
WWE Has Given Up Trademarking Brock Lesnar’s Name
Brock Lesnar was last seen on WWE TV when he lost to Drew McIntyre back at WrestleMania and the former Champion isn’t expected to return anytime soon. According to Heel By Nature, this further proof of this is the fact that WWE recently abandoned the trademark of the former star’s name.
WWE looked to trademark the former World Champion’s name back in January but the trademark was denied and more documentation was needed. WWE was then given six months to get the documentation but the company was unable to acquire written permission from Lesnar and decided to abandon the trademark on October 2nd.
Bray Wyatt Teases a Showdown With The Undertaker at Survivor Series
Bray Wyatt lost to The Undertaker back at WrestleMania 31, but it appears that he could be targetting The Deadman for one more match with his new persona. WWE has been building up this year’s Survivor Series as a 30-year celebration of The Undertaker and when the company recently put out a Tweet regarding the event, Wyatt had an interesting reply.
WWE noted that The Undertaker had defeated them all from Drew McIntyre to Bray Wyatt and the former Universal Champion then responded to inform WWE that he hadn’t quite beaten them all.
Reason Why Mercedes Martinez was Removed From Retribution
Mercedes Martinez was a memorable addition to RETRIBUTION when the group first made their debut on the main roster. The veteran superstar was one of two female talents in the group before she was surprisingly removed before Mustafa Ali took the reins.
According to a report from Fightful Select, the reason why Martinez was removed from the group was that the NXT star asked to be.
“The word among talent is that Mercedes Martinez extended her desire to no longer be a part of the angle and was removed from the group before they all signed new contracts.”
Vince McMahon Reportedly Missing From SmackDown This Week
Vince McMahon is usually a backstage presence running the show on a Friday night, but RingSideNews is reporting that the WWE Chairman was missing from last night’s show and Triple H wasn’t there to step in and run things for him.
Instead, McMahon was available on the phone and the show flowed through the Chairman all day, but it was Bruce Prichard who ran the show while Ed Koskey and Ryan Callahan handled the creative side of the show.
As ever, wrestling fans are reminded that the above are just rumors and should not be taken at face value as facts
