1. John Cena’s WWE Return
John Cena was last seen on WWE TV when he was defeated by The Fiend as part of the first-ever Firefly Fun House at WrestleMania 36.
WWE recently confirmed that this year’s WrestleMania would once again take place over two nights, which means that the company is now pushing to create a card.
According to WrestleVotes, WWE needs four major matches for the event, and at present, John Cena and Goldberg are almost locked for the show while The Undertaker’s status is undetermined, and The Rock is unlikely.
2. Vince McMahon Could Convince The Undertaker to Return Despite Retirement
The Undertaker finally hung up his wrestling boots last year at Survivor Series after three decades at the helm of WWE. The Deadman has since confirmed that he no longer has a talent contract and is now the holder of a legends deal.
Despite the change and the fact that Undertaker has only been retired officially for a few months, WrestleVotes noted that a phone call from Vince McMahon could be all it takes for The Deadman to make his WWE return at this year’s WrestleMania.
It is worth noting that those backstage do believe that The Undertaker is done this time around.
3. Roman Reigns’ WrestleMania Opponent Not Yet Decided
Roman Reigns is expected to take his Universal Championship into WrestleMania in April and defend it on The Grandest Stage of them All. While Goldberg has been the main man in the frame to face Reigns in recent months, it appears that WWE hasn’t yet decided on who The Tribal Chief will defend against.
At present, The Wrestling Observer reports that WWE is yet to decide between Goldberg and Daniel Bryan, but Bryan’s name in the match has added to the theory that the former Champion will win the 2021 men’s Royal Rumble match.
4. WWE Superstars Frustrated With the Company Surrounding COVID Vaccine
According to Fightful Select, several WWE superstars are currently frustrated with WWE after it was revealed that the company won’t be responsible for getting their employees the COVID-19 vaccine.
Instead, the company has put this responsibility into Superstars’ own hands which comes off the back of several names behind the scenes testing positive for COVID.
“There was a ton of frustration among talent that we’ve spoken to, who noted there are influential people near the top of WWE who actively speak against COVID. In the days since Drew McIntyre’s announcement, several other names behind the scenes have tested positive for COVID.”
5. Update on Aleister Black’s WWE Return
Aleister Black hasn’t wrestled on SmackDown since the former NXT Champion was drafted to the brand back in October. Instead, Black has been taken off WWE TV and his current status with the company behind the scenes remains unknown.
PWInsider recently reported that the original plan was to pull Black from TV and then have him make a dramatic return, it’s unclear if this is still the plan.
“I was told he was purposely pulled from television so he could comeback and have a big dramatic debut for SmackDown, and it just hasn’t happened.”
6. NXT Could Be Forced to Move to a New Night
The Wednesday Night War between NXT and AEW has been going on now for more than a year, but WWE could be forced to move NXT out of its current Wednesday night slot due to some major network changes.
NBC recently announced in a company memo that they were closing down NBC Sports Network before the end of the year, which means that USA Network will become quite powerful as a media platform. This also means that fans will begin tuning into USA for NHL and NASCAR coverage.
Wednesday nights are usually when NHL is broadcasted and this could then take NXT out of the lineup. It’s unclear if anything has been mentioned to WWE regarding this change as of yet.
“This will make USA Network an extraordinarily powerful platform in the media marketplace, and gives our sports programming a significant audience boost. We believe that the power of this offering is the best long-term strategy for our Sports Group, our partners, and our Company.”
As ever, wrestling fans are reminded that the above are just rumors and should not be taken at face value as facts
