WWE Rumor Roundup: Randy Orton to Become New Champion, Renee Young’s Future, Rey Mysterio’s New Deal

Renee Young’s WWE Future

Mike Johnson of PWInsider reported earlier in the week that Renee Young had handed her notice into WWE a week ago and was looking to leave after more than eight years with the company.

The Wrestling Observer reports that Young is expected to head to AEW at some point since her husband is the current AEW World Champion, but that isn’t expected to be anytime soon since there is a serious no-compete clause attached to her release.

It’s also reported that Young hasn’t left the company yet and has agreed to work SummerSlam weekend with WWE.

Rey Mysterio Has Signed a New Three-Year Deal With WWE

Rey Mysterio’s contract expired earlier in the year and it was believed that the Eye vs Eye match back at Extreme Rules was added in order to write the former World Champion off WWE TV while he negotiated his contract.

The most recent update is that Mysterio has signed a new deal with the company and The Wrestling Observer noted that the deal is “believed to be for three years.”

Mysterio will be part of SummerSlam this weekend where he will be in the corner of his son Dominik Mysterio as he makes his debut in a WWE ring.

Randy Orton to Become a 14-Time World Champion

Randy Orton could equal Triple H’s 14-time World Championship haul this weekend at SummerSlam if he is able to dethrone Drew McIntyre. The Observer noted that there was an idea being thrown around that Orton could win the World Championship and then have a showdown with Edge at WrestleMania.

The Observer also noted that there were also many officials who believe that McIntyre should remain Champion instead of passing the title over to a veteran. It will be interesting to see which option the company decide to go with on Sunday night.

Otis Not Expected to Cash-in His Money in The Bank Contract Anytime Soon

Otis is the current Mr. Money in the Bank, but he is yet to tease a cash-in on either current World Champions. There is a belief that Otis could follow in the footsteps of Alberto Del Rio and Randy Orton by cashing in at SummerSlam.

According to Tom Colohue of Sportskeeda, WWE is confused by Otis’ cash-in storyline and it’s already been re-written three times.

There was a rumor that Otis could cash-in on the Tag Team Championships instead, but it appears that whatever the plan is for Otis’ cash-in, it won’t be happening anytime soon.

WWE Has Some Huge Plans for SummerSlam

SummerSlam takes place from the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida this Sunday night and it’s the first pay-per-view outside of the Performance Center since March.

According to WrestleVotes, the company is planning something “different but pretty cool” for this weekend’s show and sees the ThunderDome as a way to reset after a few months of being locked into their Performance Center. There are also reported to be a number of returns with the likes of Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar waiting on the sidelines.

Corey Graves Returning to the Ring?

Corey Graves was an active wrestler in NXT before he suffered a concussion and was forced out of the ring and behind the commentary desk. Graves is a former NXT Tag Team Champion and while the star himself has noted numerous times that he can’t return to the ring, stars like Edge and Daniel Bryan have proved that you can never say never in WWE.

Graves recently tweeted about being too excited to sleep heading into this weekend’s show, which has led to rumors that Graves could be making his in-ring return. Graves could also be excited about the debut of The ThunderDome this weekend, all will become clear on Sunday night.

As ever, wrestling fans are reminded that the above are just rumors and should not be taken at face value as facts.
