WWE Rumor Roundup: Reason For Paul Heyman’s Dismissal, Apollo Crews’ Push, Raw Segment Scrapped

1. Paul Heyman Was Fired Because Raw Was a “Mess”

There have been a number of different reports regarding Paul Heyman’s dismissal from Executive Director position earlier this week but it appears that the story that holds the most water is the fact that Vince McMahon has had much more time on his hands lately which has allowed him to be more hands-on on Raw.

According to WrestleVotes, this has led to Raw being changed up a number of times in recent weeks because the show was reportedly “a mess”

2. Apollo Crews Could Suffer After Paul Heyman Axe

A number of WWE stars have been pushed on Raw since Paul Heyman took the role of Executive Director on the company’s flagship show. Earlier this week it was revealed that Heyman had left the role and according to a report by Tom Colohue of Sportskeeda, this could have some dramatic effects on Raw.

“A lot of people who were pushed by Paul Heyman in his time in that role, are likely to suffer now… Ricochet is someone we’ve already seen had the rug pulled out from under him. Apollo Crews is apparently someone that Vince McMahon really isn’t a fan of, and we could see this push could end sooner rather than later.”

3. Liv Morgan Segment Pulled From Raw

Liv Morgan has recently been showing signs of a character change with her recent backstage promos, but the former Riott Squad member didn’t make an appearance this past week in order to further her character development.

According to a report by Tom Colohue, this was because her pre-recorded backstage promo was scrapped by Vince McMahon. Colohue noted that many segments were re-ordered ahead of the show and Morgan’s was one that was seemingly scrapped altogether.

4. WWE Planned “Queen Of The Ring” Tournament

WWE has presented the King of The Ring Tournament for a number of years, with the most recent competition seeing Baron Corbin crowned as King.

According to a report by The Wrestling Observer, WWE planned a “Queen of the Ring ” tournament this summer before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the company to change a number of their plans.

5. Reason for Edge vs Randy Orton Match Branding

This weekend at Backlash, Edge will take on Randy Orton in “The Greatest Wrestling Match”, a branding that has seen a negative response from the WWE Universe.

According to Tom Colohue of Sportskeeda, WWE decided to brand this match as a way to help their rankings online since the casual viewer is much more likely to come across this match with this branding than a match from a rival company.

“Both the branding of the match between Edge and Orton at Backlash and the recent drunk driving arrest storyline for Jeff Hardy have been written in a way so as to create a long-term dominance of internet airwaves. The branding of the “Greatest Wrestling Match Ever” has apparently been written so that a casual viewer is more likely to stumble upon Edge Vs Orton – rather than a match from an alternative wrestling company.”

6. Drew McIntyre’s Future as Champion in Doubt?

Drew McIntyre is set to take on Bobby Lashley this weekend for the WWE Championship in perhaps his biggest test to date. The two men have never crossed paths in WWE, but there are rumors that The Almighty could be the man to dethrone The Scottish Psychopath.

According to a report by Tom Colohue, Drew McIntyre was someone who was backed by Paul Heyman and now since the former Executive Director has left his post, the future is unclear for McIntyre.

“Paul Heyman was of course behind the push for Drew McIntyre, someone that he has pushed relentlessly backstage even though Vince McMahon really didn’t really push him that hard. At the same time, Vince McMahon really did want to see his declaration that Drew McIntyre was a future World Champion come true, so he went with it then”

“That said, it is possible now that Vince McMahon would look to pivot the Championship sooner rather than later. We’ve been told a lot of times that there is a lot of faith shown in Drew McIntyre, and that comes down to Shane McMahon as well who has been advocating for Drew in the same way as Paul Heyman.”

As ever, wrestling fans are reminded that the above are just rumors and should not be taken at face value as facts.
