This week on Monday Night RAW, Seth Rollins and Buddy Murphy had a great time brutalizing Aleister Black who had come to the rescue of Dominik following the rookie’s beatdown at the hands of The Greater Good.
Black’s valiant effort wasn’t enough to put the heels away; rather, he suffered an eye injury at the hands of the Rollins-Murphy duo. As previously reported, the injury angle was a strategic move to write Black off the television. It’s unknown how long the kayfabe injury will last.
According to Alex McCarthy of TalkSport, Black could be on the verge of a huge character change in the coming weeks. Vince McMahon is high on The Anti-Hero but is worried about the former NXT Champion’s gimmick restricting him from reaching his fullest potential in WWE.
“Vince is a huge fan of the performer – and of Tommy. Size. Agility. Skill. But he is worried the character is a gimmick and will limit him.”
RingsideNews further reports that Black is still being considered for SummerSlam.
It’s interesting to see the company planning such a speedy return for The Anti-Hero especially after the injury angle on RAW and amidst rumors of his character change.
Over the years, Mr. McMahon has pulled several Superstars from TV for long periods of time in order to overhaul their characters.
“The Fiend” Bray Wyatt is hands-down the biggest character repackaging WWE has done in recent history. Not only did the revamped presentation revive Wyatt’s character, but it cemented the former World Champion as the hottest Superstar across the three brands.
Black was reportedly a Paul Heyman guy, but now that the legendary Advocate has been axed from his high-profile role on RAW, it remains to be seen what The Chairman Of Board does to The Anti-Hero’s gimmick this summer.
