Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode were the unlikely pair to participate in the historic 8-Tag Team Turmoil Match this week on Monday Night RAW.
Entering the contest at #5, The Showoff and The Glorious marched their way to victory by eliminating Lucha House Party, The Revival, Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins, and Heavy Machinery, thus earning their shot at Seth Rollins & Braun Strowman’s RAW Tag Team Championship at Clash Of Champions.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that WWE needed Superstars who possess the ability to work around Strowman, and Ziggler and Roode are hands-down the perfect guys for the job.
“I don’t think they want to do a match with Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman against Heavy Machinery. I don’t think that’s a good match for a pay-per-view. You could do the Revival, but the one thing with Roode and Ziggler you’ve got there is you could put them in there with Strowman and you know, they’ll know how to work around him and things like that. It’s not going to be anything you have to worry about. Whatever it is, they came up with a team, the team was good, so that’s cool. I think it’s a good thing that they came up with a good team. So many times they’ve come up with bad teams.”
As previously reported, Seth and Strowman are very likely to lose the titles at Clash Of Champions which means it’s party time for Ziggler and Roode on September 15.
The Monster is set to challenge The Beastslayer for the Universal Championship match in the event of the PPV and that will require the duo to drop the tag team gold early during the show.
WWE would want to ensure that Seth and Braun get enough time to build heat before their title showdown that night and to give effect to their agenda, the RAW Tag Team Titles match could be booked for the kickoff show. However, in order to keep the tag team straps legitimate, WWE could also book the title defense to open the main card.
