Cain Velasquez debuted against Brock Lesnar in a losing effort this past October at WWE Crown Jewel. Last month, Velasquez wrestled at a live event in Mexico marking his second match on his 3-year WWE deal.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that WWE has booked Cain for the first pay-per-view of the new year, Royal Rumble.
Cain Velasquez’s next booking is for the Royal Rumble show.
Velasquez is among the favorites to win the 30-Man Royal Rumble match in January. A victory would set him up for a rematch against WWE Champion Lesnar at WrestleMania 36.
As previously reported, Cain is contemplating having stem cell treatments to avoid knee surgery ahead of ‘Mania. He is yet to make his next televised appearance in WWE.
Meanwhile, Ric Flair‘s WWE contract is nearing expiry and fans are wildly speculating his next move in the pro wrestling business.
The 2-time Hall Of Famer got medically cleared for action ahead of Crown Jewel but Vince McMahon nixed the physical spot.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Flair’s contract expires right before the new year. On top of that, the 16-time World Champion is close friends with AEW President Tony Khan which fuels rumors of Flair signing with the upstart promotion in 2020.
“Flair’s WWE deal expires right around the end of the year. He is friends with Tony Khan, to the degree that Khan was an invited guest to his wedding. I would expect WWE to make a good offer to keep him given they wouldn’t want him on the AEW television show”
Vince McMahon will never want Ric Flair to show up in a rival promotion, meaning the 70-year-old legend has the privilege to negotiate a humongous deal with WWE. Given Flair has the upper hand in this scenario, it remains to be seen whether AEW can match WWE’s gigantic offer.
