Cain Velasquez made his professional wrestling debut a few weeks ago and speculations about him signing with a major promotion have been circulating ever since.
The former UFC star, who won the Heavyweight Championship during his time with the company, transitioned to wrestling last year. He signed a multi-match deal with Lucha Libre promotion AAA and is currently scheduled to appear at an AAA show on October 13.
Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio noted that Velasquez recently talked to WWE over a possible deal, and is even open to offers from AEW and NJPW.
“So Cain had a meeting with WWE. They’re talking with everyone essentially, New Japan, AEW, WWE. He’s still booked for AAA at the Forum show on October 13th as far as I know.”
Velasquez received rave reviews for his debut performance at AAA Triplemania when he teamed up with AEW star Cody Rhodes. The UFC legend wore a mask and looked better than anyone would have hoped.
It was also noted on WOR that Velasquez is still under contract with UFC, and that could be a hindrance for the superstar. The UFC deal prohibits him from performing for any other company in the USA.
“HIS contract with UFC allows him to do pro wrestling in Mexico I guess because when he signed his contract he wanted to do pro wrestling, but there must be some hold-up as far as the United States market goes because October 5th there’s a show in San Jose at Mount Pleasant High […] Cain was going to do a meet and greet and Cain was gonna do a run-in, and this might have changed, but the last I heard UFC said no.”
Cain Velasquez is a major name in combat sports and could be a major signing for WWE or AEW. Velasquez even has a history with WWE superstar Brock Lesnar, which could move from the Octagon to the Squared Circle.
