Seth Rollins has quite an uphill to climb when he steps in the ring with reigning WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar this Sunday at SummerSlam.
The build-up has been pretty one-sided so far – The Beast has dominated The Beastslayer throughout, thus emerging unbeatable in this feud. It’s worth waiting to see whether Rollins can once again pull off the impossible just 5 days from now in Canada.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer analysed how the current storyline cements Rollins as the undisputed underdog against Lesnar.
“The storyline that they’re trying to go with is that Seth has no chance to beat Brock. Does that mean that he’s gonna beat Brock? I cannot answer that question, but what I can say is the story that they were trying to tell for this build-up is that he has no chance to beat Brock which would lead one to believe that he will. I don’t trust anything when it comes to WWE booking to make sense.”
Rollins dethroned Lesnar to capture the Universal Title at WrestleMania 35. After defending the big red belt for three months, The Architect lost the gold to The Conqueror courtesy of a successful Money In The Bank briefcase cash-in on part of the latter at Extreme Rules.
Only two men have managed to win the Universal Title from Lesnar till date – Roman Reigns and Rollins.
It’s safe to assume that WWE has a big plan up its sleeve for the title match this Sunday.
A huge swerve won’t be much of a surprise and neither will a huge upset cause WWE to change it’s plans going forward. After all, the billion-dollar promotion prefers to have the prestigious title around someone’s waist who can bring in revenue and the heel/babyface issue or fan opinion doesn’t play a role here.
