Charlotte Flair left WWE programming temporarily for surgery and was reportedly set to return in a few weeks. Flair dropped the NXT Championship at NXT Takeover: In Your House after Io Shirai pinned Rhea Ripley in the main event.

Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that there were plans for Flair to continue her feud with Asuka leading into Summerslam, and possibly after that. However, a storyline injury from Nia Jax has kept the most successful star out of action and has forced WWE to change the plans for Asuka in the meantime.

Asuka is currently embroiled in a rivalry with Sasha Banks and Bayley and will take on Banks at Extreme Rules.

A push for Flair was on the cards, which could be a possible reason behind her strong NXT run. Flair didn’t take any pinfalls during her NXT run, compared to Sasha Banks, who lost to Io Shirai last week.

According to Triple H, the finish of the triple threat at Takeover was designed in such a way that the feud will continue in the upcoming months.

Flair was reportedly done with NXT after her loss, but The Game suggested that she could very well be a part of storylines going forward, as she was never pinned for the title.

It will be interesting to see how WWE handles Flair’s return, which could happen anytime soon. Flair has a beef against Asuka and Io Shirai, who are both currently aligned together against Sasha Banks and Bayley.
