Daniel Bryan was reportedly playing a second role as part of SmackDown’s creative since last year, and has had tremendous contributions so far.
He has helped to bring up the lower-card talents like Drew Gulak and Chad Gable, and is now looking to freshen up the blue brand by bringing in NXT callups.
According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the former WWE Champion has advocated for several NXT call-ups recently.
“Bryan in particular with his role in creative has been pushing to bring in more NXT talent to Smackdown to freshen things up but the counter has been the track record of everyone brought up in the last two years from NXT and how Vince ends up losing interest in them and that there is a roster full of guys who could be used that aren’t even on television now.”
The handling of NXT stars over the past few years (Andrade, Aleister Black, etc) has left a lot to be desired, which is an area of concern.
However, Bryan has shown willingness to promote newer talents which could play a factor but ultimately it will be Vince McMahon who makes the decisions.
Damian Priest was all set to debut last week on Smackdown and team up with Kevin Owens to take on Roman Reigns and Jey Uso, but those plans were dropped. It is possible that Priest’s inclusion was Byran’s idea.
