The AEW Women’s Title Eliminator Tournament is set to kick off this week on Dynamite. The tournament will feature 16 women and will have bouts in both the United States and Japan.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer newsletter, the Japanese bouts are being taped on a closed set at the Ice Ribbon Dojo in Warabi, Saitama, Japan.
Meltzer said that AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida is producing the matches and is currently in Japan. This is why she has been off AEW TV for the last two weeks.
Shida had been required to quarantine for two weeks before traveling to Japan, as per the country’s travel guidelines.
The first match of the American side of the tournament has been announced for this Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite. The match will see the former NWA Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa face off against AEW’s Leyla Hirsch.
No further matches for the American side or the Japanese side have been revealed, though all the competitors have been identified.
The Japanese competitors for the tournament are:
- Aja Kong
- Yuka Sakazaki
- Emi Sakura
- Ryo Mizunami
- Mei Suruga
- Rin Kadokura
- Maki Itoh
