Details on How AEW Managed to Bring in Thunder Rosa From NWA

AEW made a huge announcement last week when they brought in NWA Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa for a match against Hikaru Shida at All Out for the AEW Women’s Championship.

Rosa has six years of experience in the wrestling business and became the first Mexican star to hold the NWA Women’s Championship.

Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported about the match this week and said that the friendship between Tony Khan and NWA owner Billy Corgan led to this matchup, and all it took was one phone call between the duo.

With NWA looking to expand, this could be a good way to advertise their product on a bigger platform and could open up possibilities for future collaborations.

“The Shida vs. Rosa match with the AEW champion vs. NWA champion was basically an idea Tony Khan had, and he knows Billy Corgan and called him up over it. For Corgan it made sense, it gets his NWA brand and his women’s champion on TNT and on a major PPV as he embarks on his own weekly PPV idea starting next month”

AEW signed former NWA Champion Ricky Starks earlier this year and could look to bring in more talents on either permanent or one-off matches. With several big names in AEW Women’s Division out due to injury, Khan was possibly forced to contact the promotion for a one-off encounter.

AEW EVP and former TNT Champion Cody Rhodes is a former NWA Heavyweight Champion himself, after having won the title at All In PPV in 2018.
