Drew Gulak‘s WWE contract expired earlier this month and the company quickly moved him to the Alumni section on their website. There were reports of WWE refusing Gulak’s demands for a pay raise and all talks stopping at the point when the promotion pulled their original contract offer, but it appears that both sides have again resumed contract negotiations on a positive note.
According to PWInsider, Gulak has inked a new deal with WWE. The 33-year-old Superstar has been added back to the official SmackDown roster page on WWE’s website.
Gulak is yet to wrestle since losing to Daniel Bryan in the WWE Intercontinental Title tournament, a couple of weeks ago on SmackDown.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed Gulak’s current situation in the pro wrestling industry. He was approached by rival promotions the moment everybody knew that he didn’t have a non-compete clause. However, the former 205 Live gave everyone the impression that he had already sorted out his next career move.
“I know people who tried to book him for future dates because you know he was actually a free agent. He could have been on whatever. He could have been on Double Or Nothing and he… the way he reacted — I guess by the way he reacted when people contacted him they didn’t know he was going back to WWE, but they knew he was going somewhere because he wasn’t interested in anything so it was assumed that he was going to WWE or AEW, but he had already pretty much made up his mind that he wasn’t going anywhere else.”
It’s obvious that the contract negotiations have worked out in Gulak’s favor i.e. his request for a pay raise has been promptly granted. Given how swiftly Gulak re-signed with WWE, some fans wouldn’t even realize that he was gone for a while.
