John Cena didn’t wrestle on pay-per-view throughout 2019 which is the first time he has gone a calendar year without a match on pay-per-view since his debut. It appears that this isn’t something that the former 16-time World Champion wants to repeat either.

According to a report by WrestleVotes, John Cena is pushing for a much more substantial role at next year’s WrestleMania, much more than his appearance this year where he was part of an angle with Elias. Cena has lived in Tampa over the past few years while filming his parts in Total Bellas and Total Divas. Even though Cena is originally from West Newbury Massachusetts, he recognizes Tampa as his second home which would make next year’s WrestleMania a huge occasion for him.

The former Champion and sure-fire WWE Hall of Famer has been busy over the past 12 months on movie sets and filling out his hosting duties, but Cena has always found time to return to WWE when needed.

Cena is seen as a part-time star at present, but unlike Brock Lesnar, he doesn’t need a title to keep coming back to the company. Cena sees WWE as his home and the entire reason he has been able to walk into the lifestyle that he currently has. Cena is fully prepared to come back to the company and put over any up and coming stars as he gets prepared to walk away.

With some rumors suggesting that WrestleMania 36 could be the perfect place for Cena to bow out, given the fact that it’s in Tampa, there could be many interesting opponents for him to face. If WWE sees this as a passing of the torch moment for an up and coming NXT star, then this would potentially be a career-changing match for one lucky star in the locker room.
