Katsuyori Shibata, currently signed with AEW, continues to have heat with NJPW officials, according to Dave Meltzer on <a href="https://www.f4wonline.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">Wrestling Observer Radio</a>. 



The friction dates back to Wrestle Kingdom 16, when Shibata changed a planned &#8220;catch wrestling rules&#8221; match into a full pro wrestling match, including strikes, violating NJPW&#8217;s medical clearance. 



This led to his removal from in-ring competition and his eventual departure from NJPW. Although NJPW President Hiroshi Tanahashi expressed interest in facing Shibata during his retirement tour, it remains unlikely due to lingering issues. Shibata had also lost his role as NJPW dojo head coach after the incident.
