Kofi Kingston defends his WWE Championship against Brock Lesnar on the SmackDown season premiere on FOX this Friday, October 4th.
The belief is that Lesnar will likely dethrone Kingston on the gala SmackDown debut on FOX, but that may raise questions regarding the booking for one of the top title matches at the Hell In A Cell pay-per-view.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Kingston losing the championship on Friday will potentially set up a title rematch for Sunday’s PPV.
“One of the things is the WWE Championship match is if Brock wins the title and it certainly seems like that will be the case and it probably is the case obviously they can’t do anything with Kofi, so maybe it’s a Brock and Kofi rematch?”
Kingston has had an eventful WWE Title run so far and fans are pleased with the way WWE has booked him as a promising fighting champion.
Meltzer further reported that WWE has ‘a good card’ planned for October 6, and the Lesnar vs Kingston rematch may just be one of the essential pieces to the puzzle.
“I asked what’s going on for Hell In A Cell and it’s like there’s a good card planned.”
This week on Monday Night RAW, The Beast absolutely decimated Rey Mysterio and his son Dominick with a plethora of devastating F5s and vicious suplexes.
While there’s no word on whether Lesnar is yet a permanent remember of the SmackDown roster, his latest appearance on RAW only sparks the speculations regarding his exclusivity to either brand.
It is to be noted that Lesnar isn’t yet booked for Hell In A Cell and ticket sales have been sluggish as well. This might be enough indication towards the genius booking WWE has in store – The Beast walks into Staples Center with the WWE Title and leaves the show with the prestigious gold still around his waist.
