Lana’s Push Was Originally a Punishment by WWE

At TLC, Charlotte Flair returned to team up with Asuka. They defeated Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler for the Women’s Tag Team Championship. Originally, Lana was going to challenge for the title along with Asuka. But WWE changed the plans at the last moment.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Lana’s recent WWE push started as a punishment. Then the idea was that if Jax would drive Lana through the table every week, it would get her over – similar to how Daniel Bryan got over in 2014. But the lack of live fans failed the idea.

This has come after Lana recently said these rumors are “insane”, in an interview with The New York Post.

“Obviously this started as punishment, obviously and then somebody got the idea that it was funny and they kept doing it. Then the mentality was that she’s going to get over really big and then, you know, she didn’t, but that was their mentality. I was told about it all the way through.”

“Obviously, the original idea was — I’m not saying I believed it. I’m not saying it would get her over. I was laughing about it that it would get her over so big the whole time they were doing it, but that is how they think because of freaking Daniel Bryan.”

As of now, Lana is still injured in storyline. It’s unknown when she would return and her pairing with Asuka has probably ended following TLC too.
