Mercedes Martinez Left Retribution on Her Own Terms

Mercedes Martinez was originally set to be part of the Retribution stable, after making several appearances on the main roster. She was part of the first face-reveal segment but quickly disappeared without any trace.

WWE initially put out Mia Yim (Reckoning), Shane Thorne (Slapjack), Dominik Dijakovic (T-Bar), Dio Maddin (Mace), and Martinez, with Yim and Martinez possibly joining the tag-division. Mustafa Ali later joined the stable as the leader.

However, Fightful Select revealed that Martinez didn’t like the direction of the program, and asked to be removed from the faction.

“The word among talent is that Mercedes Martinez extended her desire to no longer be a part of the angle and was removed from the group before they all signed new contracts.”

It was also noted that WWE tried to figure out a replacement, throwing in different names from the NXT roster. However, the creative eventually decided to go forward with Yim as the sole female talent in the group.

Martinez lost against Rhea Ripley on NXT a few weeks ago, putting an end to their feud and signaling a move to the main roster. WWE could be looking to bolster their Women’s Division, especially on SmackDown, with the addition of the veteran star.
