WWE released a number of WWE stars this past week including Luke Harper and Sin Cara, who had both publicly requested their WWE release. Many fans wondered why Mike Kanellis and Maria were not on the list of stars who have also been granted their departure from WWE, since Kanellis also requested his release on Twitter earlier this year.

Kanellis and his wife Maria only recently signed new five-year deals with WWE, but according to WWE Hall of Famer and former Tag Team Champion Bubba Ray Dudley on a recent appearance on Busted Open Radio, the duo actually misled the company when they made the decision to re-sign.

“I heard rumors, and not internet rumors and dirt sheet rumors. I’ve heard talk of some scuttlebutt amongst the boys that Mike and Maria might have misled the WWE when their new contracts were signed. I don’t know this for a fact but I’m saying maybe the WWE didn’t want to release them because I want to keep them their money’s worth out of them,” he said via SEScoops.

Bubba Ray didn’t go into details when it comes to how Mike and Maria misled their employers and he does state that this is just a rumor, but if this was the case then it would make sense and give good reasoning as to why Mike and Maria were not on the release list last week.

Mike’s request for a release came just four months after he signed the new deal which led to a number of rumors that WWE didn’t know about Maria’s pregnancy when the duo re-signed.

WWE was able to work the pregnancy into a storyline, but after Mike requested his release from WWE, he was taken off WWE TV and the storyline was rehashed with Lana, Rusev and Bobby Lashley instead, acting out the love triangle.
