The 2020 Royal Rumble takes place next weekend and given the rise of the NXT brand over the past few months, many fans believed that NXT would be part of the show, much like Survivor Series but this now may not be the case.
There are already a number of stars announced for the men’s Rumble match, which leaves limited places for the NXT brand and any surprises that WWE wants to keep under wraps, which could be why Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp believes that NXT may not be part of this year’s show.
Sapp told Fightful Select: “It does not at this moment, at this very moment right now look like NXT is in it,” via Ringsidenews.
It was believed that 10 superstars from each brand would be part of each Rumble match, but this can no longer be the case since there are already 12 stars from RAW in the match.
Sapp did go on to make it clear that NXT stars could be surprises in the match if WWE decided to make them part of it, but given the fact that they are part of Worlds Collide the day before and then have their own Takeover event on February 16th, it’s unlikely that NXT will feature.
Over the past few years, the women of NXT have featured heavily in the women’s match and unless WWE has a number of surprises which they could call in then it’s hard to see how the company can make up the numbers without calling upon a few NXT stars as surprises.
With the match just over a week away, Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar, AJ Styles, Erick Rowan, Randy Orton, Rey Mysterio, Ricochet, Drew McIntyre, Bobby Lashley, Aleister Black, Rusev, Buddy Murphy, Elias, King Corbin, Dolph Ziggler, Otis, and Tucker have all been announced from RAW and SmackDown. Cain Velasquez has also announced that he will be participating in the men’s Rumble match.
So far only Charlotte Flair, Sarah Logan, Nikki Cross, and Alexa Bliss have announced that they will be part of the Women’s Royal Rumble match.
