Roman Reigns was expected to make his return to WWE programming at The Biggest Party of the Summer after opting to stay at home since March. The former Universal Champion made the decision to drop out of WrestleMania when the COVID-19 pandemic started to cause issues in America.
Reigns made the decision based on the fact that he was one of the at-risk groups for the virus, given his recent battle with Leukemia, as well as the fact that his wife had recently given birth to their second set of twins.
Reigns isn’t expected to return at this year’s SummerSlam now that the show will be filmed from the Performance Center and the WWE Universe is still unable to be in attendance.
Despite this, Reigns was factored into the company’s plans and according to a report by RingSideNews, the company’s plan was for Reigns to face either Bray Wyatt or Braun Strowman with his Universal Championship on the line.
The site goes on to reveal that the company only discussed three matches for the Universal Championship at the show and they were Reigns against Wyatt or Strowman and the match that the company has decided to go with which will see Strowman and Wyatt face off.
This weekend, the two men will battle it out in a Swamp Match as part of The Horror Show at Extreme Rules and it’s a feud that is expected to continue heading into the Biggest Party of the Summer next month.
