AJ Styles was moved over to SmackDown last month to be part of the Intercontinental Championship tournament after Sami Zayn refused to return to WWE while COVID-19 was still an issue.
Styles went on to win the tournament and become the new Intercontinental Champion and Mustafa Ali, Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode have all moved over to Monday Night Raw in place of The Phenomenal One.
It was thought that Styles was moved over because SmackDown was lacking star power in the absence of Roman Reigns, but it appears that this isn’t the case.
According to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer, Styles was moved after a backstage argument with Paul Heyman. The argument apparently began following the release of his friends Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson.
Meltzer also went on to reveal that Paul Heyman had big plans for Seth Rollins, AJ Styles and Randy Orton over on Raw before he was dismissed from his role earlier this month.
“It had been pretty clear that Orton and A.J. Styles, and to a lesser extent Rollins, were there to give rubs and feud with younger talent. But circumstances led to the planned programs falling apart due to WrestleMania and the big picture.”
