Last night’s episode of Monday Night Raw was the first since the climax of the WWE Draft last week and allowed the company to allow a few new stars to step out of the shadows, including the Street Profits and Humberto Carillo.
It was a strange week since it was the penultimate episode of Raw ahead of WWE Crown Jewel, which is why much of the show was pointed towards the trip to Saudi Arabia with Ric Flair kicking off the show by naming Drew McIntyre as the fifth and final member of his team.
Cain Velasquez was able to show his dominance ahead of his WWE Championship match against Brock Lesnar when he saved Rey Mysterio from an assault at the hands of Shelton Benjamin, but there was still something important missing.
There wasn’t a women’s match or segment on Raw for the first time in around a decade and it appears that this could have been because two of WWE’s biggest female stars were already booked for last night.
Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch wasn’t in attendance in Cleveland, Ohio because she was representing WWE at the 10th Annual “espnW: Women + Sports Summit” in Los Angeles. Former SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair was also otherwise engaged in Australia attending meet and greet with fans. Both women Tweeted out ahead of the show to make fans aware that they wouldn’t be part of the show.
It appears that the women have been taken out of the focus heading into Crown Jewel next week since the build to Survivor Series is yet to begin, but it’s thought that they will return to the spotlight when the Women’s Champion makes her return. It was obviously decided by both Vince McMahon and Paul Heyman that this week didn’t need a Women’s touch, but in the future, the Women’s Revolution is expected to continue.
