WWE had plans to tape two episodes of SmackDown this week but ended up filming only one. Monday Night RAW tapings were utterly chaotic due to Vince McMahon tearing up the script at the last minute and implementing every idea he could to boost the ratings.
According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE did bring in key SmackDown talents for the tapings but failed to film two weeks’ worth of content.
“So yesterday here’s what happened. I guess things happened. I don’t know if it was test related or what, but there were key people on SmackDown into the show and the show ended up getting torn apart and re-done anyway as RAW was.”
“So, on Monday night, they made the call to only tape one episode and it was a complete mess on Tuesday and so that show’s on Friday.”
The company performs COVID-19 tests on employees before they are allowed into the Performance Center. It’s unknown whether the sudden change of plans stemmed from COVID-19 complications.
WWE will again need to tape SmackDown next week in order not to miss the August 13th episode. The company will reportedly tape RAW on the same day as well. It remains to been seen when exactly the August 21st show will be taped.
