In a major development, Rey Mysterio was reported to be working without a WWE contract, after his contract with the company expired quite some time ago. Mysterio returned full-time two years ago and he is currently in a feud with Seth Rollins and his gang on RAW.
According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Mysterio has been working without a contract for months, and the eye injury was initially believed to write him out of action. Mysterio and Vince McMahon have not been able to come to terms with a new contract, as Mysterio’s wage demands were not accepted by the company.
“He had asked for a raise, Vince said ‘look at the situation we’re in we just go rid of a bunch of people.’ Anyway, he not signed and they’re trying to book a match for Extreme Rules as a Rey vs Rollins singles match where the stipulation is the only way to win the match is to take out the other person’S eye — blind them for life — that is how you win the match.”
Mysterio’s son Dominick is also a regular part of WWE programming currently, and the Lucha star is looking to establish his son in the professional wrestling industry. Dominick hasn’t disappointed with his limited time in the ring, and WWE could be giving a push to Mysterio’s son in order to keep him in the company.
WON also noted that several other promotions, including All Elite Wrestling, will be willing to take the 45-year-old into their roster. Dave Meltzer noted that Mysterio could be looking for greener pastures where he can guarantee his son’s development in the wrestling business.
“The one thing is that you never know with Vince. If it were me and I were in Rey’s shoes as far as his own career and his own push and now we’re talking about Dominik I would be more confident with a push in AEW than I would in WWE and being a top guy and not being forgotten as well”
Mysterio reportedly wanted to wrestle alongside his son in the company, and it remains to be seen if it happens in WWE or some other promotion.
